I've just built up a test PC and put Win 10 and the latest folding client on it. It's an i5 6500 on B250 with 4GB of memory. I ran it overnight the night before last to see what it could do, and when I checked in the morning it was saying it was doing a projected 3K PPD. I was expecting at least 10x that, any suggestions? I am happy to run it up again and leave it longer, but was doing an initial test.
Did you have your PassKey added? Are the cores being used for anything else (e.g. supporting the GPU Folding?) Is the client set to run at Full? For general info, here's a link to a table of what you might expect different CPUs to generate; CPU PPD List
Thanks for the list Doc, I’ll take a look. In thought I’d configured it properly as I have the pass key saved in a text file with the team number etc. it was set to full and while working and nothing else was running. I’ll check and try again today.
Got back to it this morning and it's running at about 38k, which is more like it. No idea why, I did add 4gb of ram that came in the post and optimised the speed across the (cheap) unmatched sticks. I've left it running and will see if the ppd picks up like the other systems in good conditions.
hello Arboreal , I can see that you're seriously folding , was wondering...how many PC are you using for folding ? I know you're totally out of range for me, actually I'm only reaching 3 million points...BTW, under which pseudo are you foldding, (if it doesn''t bother you to mention)...I searched through the list of BT's members and I didn't see you, not as Arboreal at least...
Hi Kim, I am using Arboreal!! I'm aboout no 460 in the B-T team. What am I running? Well......... All the heavy lifting is being done when I can spare the GTX 970 on my main gaming / workstation rig, it's a bit noisy and I'm watching the electric bills. The i5 8400 in the main gaming is second in the numbers game, followed by some older CPUs. My wife's PC is now running an i5 4590 (up from an i3 4130) folding 24/7 unless the fans annoy her. The family PC is folding 24/7 quietly on an i3 4170. New in this week is my project PC sporting a newly acquired i5 6500, as mentioned above. That's a bare board with wires everywhere. Now I have that, I'll probably run it quietly rather than the i5 8400 overnight. So, nothing heavy duty and only 1 part time GPU that puts the rest to shame. Even running a Haswell quad or 2 all the time keeps the points racking up and doesn't get noisy, cost a lot or make the house hot. When it was cold last month, the gaming rig was either folding, playing games or video editing, and I was lovely and warm in the office!! avec meilleurs voeux d'un peu du nord de la Manche
hi Arboreal..., well, I feel like a moron now LoL, okay, I start to need glasses , yes I found you now, N° 468: more than 4 million good , I'm only N°561, but my 2 rigs are folding very well with the latest client, it even seems to have increased my folding speed , I'm ticking up points, watch out ...I am excited to install the client on my X79 build but I'm far from pulling on the start button yeah, we also had a temperature drop those last 2 weeks, and the PC room was delightly warm without any heater, now the sun is back, and it's the opposite, I gotta open windows and create an airflow to keep acceptable cooling temps best wishes from across the Channel
