I have an old 80gb Ide hard drive that i want to get stuff out of. However, it already has an OS on it. If i plug it in now, with my sata enabled as well, will i get a conflict between the os?
umm, i think you can determine which order the HDDs boot up in so therefore you *should* be able to set the SATA drive to boot up first and then the IDE drive will just be a data drive.
you can go into your bios and pick which hard drive to boot 1st, or if its an asus board press F8 for the boot menu or Esc on an nvidia 680 at post, if that helps
well, i just hooked it up as a master ide, ran it, got what i wanted, and popped it out. Its incredibly slow, so i doubt ill use it again.
If it's slow, it might be set in PIO transfer mode instead of DMA. Also, when we were doing this once with a friend of mine, we experienced the same problems. Bootup time was doubled. He has a SATA OS disk, too.
