    nVidia seem to be fairly responsive to the wants of folders, clearly because they are pushing the GPGPU angle quite hard. I think the problem of getting Microsoft to change is a more difficult one (witness Vista and dummy plugs requirements). Could be time to keep an eye on what is happening in the Linux camp.
