Not really a cost issue, it just does not offer enough over the 1080 about 15% on the one I have for double the asking price. Only those with money to burn would consider that a good deal.

If SLI worked 2 1080s would be a lot faster for around the same money.

If it performed 75% faster my 1080 would be on the forum sell page and I would have brought one straight away.

I don't think Vega will be magically cheaper and part of me also wonders if it will be faster. Enough it's completely irelivent as its at least 4 months away and most likely 6-8months.

My guess Little vega will perform around the 1080 and cost maybe £30 to £50 less which is still a £600 average price gpu for custom cards. Big Vega could even beat the Titan on price if the rumours of it having double everything compared to little vega are true.

Nvidia is enjoying it's free time why not milk the crap out of us. It's still sold out already even at £1099.

Sad times for high end PC users, Inte wants £1500 for a CPU and Nvidia wants £1100 for a gpu PC world mag reviewed a PC with 2 and the CPU cost like crazy cash.

It's not a good deal. However, it seems that at up to £900 loads of people bought Titan/Black/X and then showed off for the following months. No Titan has ever been close to what any one could consider a good deal but at £1100 most of them seem to have gone quiet, or just did what you did and said they're only 15% faster.

    But it doesn't.

It's faster than your 1080. That was all it needed to be. From what I have heard at high clocks these things demolish the 1080. We will also see how they perform under water quite soon, as three or four people on OCUK have bought them.

So you don't think Vega will be cheaper than £1100?

The Titan XP (as some are calling it to avoid confusion) is not priced for the mainstream market. It's a braggart's card and one that seems to have finally scared off all of the rabid fanboys who up to this point would have bought anything Nvidia sold them.

Vega is not going to be a specialist product. Nor can it be, given that even if it's faster than the Titan XP people will still slag it into the ground because it's not Nvidia. It won't, and can't be £1100 but then let's face it who thinks AMD would actually try and pull a stunt like that?

The Fury X cost a bone load more to produce than the 980ti. What with its water cooling, chromed components, LEDs and of course HBM. However, AMD released it at £530. What with it being far more expensive to produce than the 980ti for the reasons I laid out AMD must have had to make a smaller profit on it trying to compete.

If the 1080ti comes along first it *will* be £800-£900. Prices will probably start where the stupid priced 1080s stop. The only thing that can prevent that is Vega. If Vega comes first and is any cheaper than £800-£900 Nvidia will release the 1080ti for less.

Those who thought that Nvidia planned to launch the 980ti for £520 are clearly deluded. Had it not been for Fury X it would have been £600 at least and possibly up to £650 because the Titan X (the old one) was £900+

No no, let's be clear, Nvidia are enjoying milking the crap out of you.

Since the 1080 I have refused to buy a new Nvidia GPU. It's also not sad times for high end PC users because near on all of them are show offs and only buy GPUs like the TXP so they can sit on forums bragging about it. GPUs have become a very bragworthy item and if you own the latest and greatest then you get to strut around like a prat telling every one.

I've noted that I have never seen one Tesla or Quadro owner ever join OCUK and brag about it.

Don't tell me though, it's not Nvidia being greedy it's all AMD's fault :D

Yes it'll cost significantly more than Titan X with Interposer + HBM2, but AMD's margins are typically lower, esp. at high end.

No need to be jealous of my high(ish) end graphics card (from almost 5 years ago) that can tear through games (from 7 years ago) at maxed out 1920x1080 at over 200fps. Being able to say my framerate in games is in the top 1% of people on my block is a truly demanding job.

I have a R9 270 and primarily play DX9, DX10 or unintensive DX11 games. I can already play my most used games at 4K. :D

Agree with this, it will cost amd more to produce it than Nvidia is paying. If AMD want to increase there margin who knows where the price will end up.

Little Vega at £600 is not unrealistic more so if it outperforms the 1080 it will be against.

Big Vega is just so much rumour it's impossible to price. If it really come with 16gb hbm2 memory it will be a very expensive gpu. Rumours are its double the proposed little vega. Double memory double core counts on a single die.

What would even be a realistic price for such a crazy chip £900+ ?

AMD does not need to undercut Nvidia by much to get sales. £50 on both the 1080 and Titan would do it especially if it takes the performance crown.

Work out what people spend and come back to me on that one vault you have the last Titan yourself however much you paid for it is mute point it still cost £900 on launch. With a watercooling block as yours is that's a nice bill.

Never been a big Titan fan, my opinion has never wavered on that one.

I did expect a lot more than what has been shown so far, maybe I am unrealistic.

And what of the people who buy them because they want to play the games they enjoy at the best possible settings, regardless of the cost?
Probably because most of them are doing things that are comparatively boring compared to gaming.

    Good luck to them !

I've got nothing against people who buy products like this. I've got loads, over two grand's worth of headphones. Thing is I rarely ever mention them nor the spec of my PC etc etc.

You buy them yeah? difference is I don't see you parading around the forum reminding every one every ten seconds.

It's OCUK I'm talking about and specifically about five people there.

Oh yeah exactly. Thing is dude on certain forums there are certain types of people who buy this stuff just to boast with. That's why it's become so expensive, because people would sell their a**e to be able to boast. They've become a boutique item like designer clothes with a label on them and that's why Nvidia are charging so much.

End of the day they're a PC part. As Ben once said in CPC, go show one to a family member who doesn't give a crap and then try and explain that it cost you £1100.

AdoredPC did a video the other day where he asked how much is too much? I guess his question has been answered.

This from the guy who spent months casually mentioning in every second post that he had, and I quote "a pair of Titan Black" :D

Which by that time were two years old. I knew some one would mention that :sigh:

There is a difference of course. They cost £699 each not £1100, plus they were hardly bragworthy items given they were just re-runs of the original Titan :)

When I built that rig I was off forums. You'll note I didn't join up then to brag about it. I actually built that rig for DP, because a friend of mine owns a company who design/code online slot machines. I was supposed to be getting a load of work using his software (which he's designed to use DP) and it didn't happen.

Mind you, I did scratch the "build a stupid PC for stupid money once" itch, so I guess that's one thing off my bucket list :)

I think every person intrested in computer hardware has that itch, some just have the means to scratch it more often than others. Which is where the brag comes in for some.

I have stayed off the ocuk forums for years now. Was 4 people on there who did my head in, 2 AMD die hards and 2nvidia they all got banned but by the sounds of what your saying they are all back.

My partner does not get technology at all her idea of a computer is her IPhone, she would never dream of dropping £1k plus on PC components and thinks I'm a bit nuts. I bypass that argument by saying its a hobby.

I would love to see real competition and some real pricing it's worked in other areas like SSDs and memory and motherboards. Only the CPU and gpu are still in the mental areas. It's why I would not mind AMDs gpu division been brought out by the likes of Samsung. They would have the money to really push Nvidia in that sector and we could see some insane product development pace.

4K 60fps is still at best a yearly upgrade cycle which is still too much, 4K screens are getting cheaper the chips to power them are getting more and more expensive. Stuff does look insane but is it worth the outlay.

Me neither, but for different reasons: Nvidia wants all the branding, all the glory. There's no choice - it's stock cooler and shitty VRMs with a lovely fat core. They used to only sell you the whole thing and now they won't even let AIBs touch it.
ASUS had MARS 3 ready to go, twice (twin 680s then twin 780 Ti's), and Nvidia went FU don't you dare launch it. It was 1000 pieces for **** sake. Very anti-consumer. Even AMD is going that route now with its dual-Fury only being a reference model. There's no more interesting super-high-end.

This is basically my life too. "Why do you need to upgrade your NAS, it works perfectly" gets a reply of Why do you need 30 handbags? Because we enjoy shopping for it.

Me too. I get questions why I spent £100+ on a mechanical keyboard and spending £1000+ on 2 GPU SLI and so on. My partner doesn't get it but given the choice between her HP Envy laptop and my gaming PC, she prefers going on mine.

What kinds of bottleneck? I've noticed it some places (timespy demo for instance) the gpu will downclock because the CPU can't feed it fast enough.

That sounds like much much more than a bottleneck.
