Hi all, With Black Friday tomorrow I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the ASUS ROG PG279Q monitor? I have heard a mixed bag about it but quite a few people have complained about Quality control Issues. The retailer I was looking at getting it from (Scan) are not very clear about Dead Pixel policy. It’s a lot to drop on a screen for it to have 1 dead pixel or lots of back light bleed. Comments greatly appreciated Lassie
I have a PG279Q, purchased from Scan. Like you, I was concerned with the quality control on this panel but after much research, it was the early batches that suffered. Mine had zero dead pixels and is still perfect nearly two years later. Mine did appear to suffer with some backlight bleed though; however, again after some reading, it became clear that this was down to packaging and the way the bezel is pressed into the panel by the polystyrene. After a few days out of the box, the pressure eased off and there's no more backlight bleed than you'd expect with any other IPS panel. Yes, it's a lot to drop on a monitor but I'm pretty sure you can buy with confidence now the panel has been in production and processes refined after 2.5 years of RMAs etc. If you do drop the cash on it, you'll need to calibrate it to get the best from it. Here's a great guide complete with optimum settings from TFT Central: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_rog_swift_pg279q.htm I'd say go for it. I love mine.
Thanks for your insight Sentinel. Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger as it was £85.00 off in the Black Friday sale. Should have it tomorrow. Appreciate the info regarding the backlight bleed and the TFT central information. Keep you posted
So the screen was delivered this morning. No dead pixels Some back light bleed in the top right corner but im hoping it reduces over a few days. Going to do some gaming with it now and see how I get on. Couple of strange things out of the box though. Brightness came defaulted at 60 when I thought they shipped at 80? Also the ROG logo was off. I was wondering the way it was packed if it was a refurb but there were no other signs. Also the foil sticker top left was missing any writing. if was just foil..... Could be me though not sure.
I don't think you'd have been sold a refurb, not without it being advertised so. I can't remember what the shipping condition settings were for mine but seem to recall having to enable the rog logo also. Either way, use the guide on TFT Central to set up the display and enjoy high refresh glory!
Thanks sentinel. I rang Scan as I found someone elses shipping label under mine. 'Apparently' its brand new and DPD cocked up by putting someone elses label on mine. They checked thier order and it was not even a monitor? Out of interest how long did you have to wait for the bleed to reduce? I have a particular bad area in the top right.... all subjective I guess?
It could also be that one of their guys put the wrong shipping label on the box by mistake. It happens. We are all human. I wouldn't be too worried about it being a refurb either - I doubt they would do that accidentally, never mind intentionally.
Mine eased off after a few days. There's still a bit of backlight bleed now but find me an IPS panel that doesn't have it and you'll do well! If you have a plastic trim tool, you can slide it between the join between the bezel and the rear cover and see if it eases the bleed. If so, give it a careful wiggle to take pressure off the IPS display. Failing that, just let it settle. In reality, you won't notice the bleed during normal use so worry less about it and just enjoy owning one of the best 1440p screens out there .
