I like this article: http://www.overclockers.com/tips01210/ for more reasons than I can probably say. Just warning you: I have phoned AMD and we are trying to get a Phenom but were told to email them with details of HOW we are testing (and why would they want to know that then?) among other things. I haven't had a reply and the launch is next week Since it seems I've annoyed someone, somewhere at AMD for something I wrote recently and we wouldn't pull it from site because we're not under NDA for it, I'm preparing for the worst (as in, ask someone in Taiwan for one XD) So, short story is that it might not be on site straight away. I'm going to phone the PR lass every day this week to nag, so we'll see what happens. I'd just like to echo the sentiment of the column at overclockers though - read reviews with a critical eye OT: How long has overclockers had that site? 10 years? :| EDIT: Not annoyed anyone anymore, tis all hugs and kisses.
Same. AMD seems to be shooting themselves in the foot here. I always saw them as being the "good guy" (as opposed to the "evil Intel", obviously). But now? Well, that's just petty...
Yikes. I'm looking at the Athlon 64 3700+ in my case and remembering a better time... Although, it really is make or break time for AMD. If Phenom doesn't perform well, then... Well, don't expect any Intel price cuts soon is all I can say. They are naturally going to be hyper-sensitive about who says what about the prodcut that carries their future on its shoulders.
I dont have any hopes for the new chip, personally i dont think it will be that much of an improvement. They need to do an intel and start from scratch as theyve pushed the A64 stuffs far enough and need a clean sheet. Buying ATi didnt help much but i do think in the coming years both teams will get their act straight.
Dammit, and I was hoping for price cuts on Intel's end in the next few months. If AMD are this unconfident about Barcelona...
pls bindi promise to test a phenom (if you ever get one) on true am2+ boards and clearly state everytime you use a "fake" am2+ board (asus announced several "fake" am2+ boards (read: am2 boards that are made compatible witha bios update, but still lack the essential new stuff taht will separate am2+ from am2). as for the whole amd better release soemthing good soon talk.... well.. go buy an amd product to give them the funds to develop a better product... or do you want intel cpu's at the speed of royal mail?
haven't been kept up with AMD, can i just ask, which phenom will be launched? if it's not the quad core when will this be launched? (are AMD's phenom quads are native?) it's very suspicious when a company denies to send samples to review sites. may be AMD's new processor (which they are hoping to save themselves from penryn) performs similar to the current core2quad?
1.9GHz afaik, but even then that's from what I've read elsewhere. They have a good product, I'm sure, they just can't get it out the door Nao - it'll be on RD790s
thx... i'm just scared of people "screwing up" performance and power saving of k10 due to some mainboard manufacturers not clearly stating that k10 will be crippeld on am2 boards.
Can you post a separate review of said RD790 boards for us with AM2 procs? I'm really interested in MSI's offering ATM, but I might get the DFI if it's decent...
Well I'll see what arrives first. If we get a Phenom to use in it then I'll do that and if not it'll be a 6000+. I've not been offered any RD790 boards yet whereas people seem to be throwing X38s at me :|
Yeah, but that's overpriced Intel stuff. Thinking about a nice 6000+ myself to tide me over. I remember when we just dreamed about those clockspeeds...
I'll take one of those X38's off your hands bindi, sva eyou being over worked. Will the 6000+ be the black edition or bogo?
uhm if amd arent throwing them out then two things, maybe they suck (i dont think so though) or they just have very few of them and are trying to get the really best reviews possible, or they are playing abit just for hype. I mean bad talk is better than no talk. Once everyone gets the word phenom on their tongue then they can storm the market.
"For AMD" I'd do the same if I were in their position - few products, so you want to maximise the impact which means seeking those who will give you a large amount of positive coverage.
Just out of interest, what did you write to hack off AMD? ack...was hoping this would be an intel breaker, but looking at this reaction, my hopes are now somewhat diminished...
