What's with the popup ads all over this site? Every page I go to tries to bring up a popup window and changes the link to something like this:

    htt***p://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-7778374981767346&random=***1093436396688&format=468x60_as&output=html&url=http%3A%2F%2***Fforums.bit-tech.net%2Fnewthread.php%3Fdo%3Dnewthread%26f%3D3&color_bg=FFFFFF&color_text=***000000&color_link=0000FF&color_url=008000&color_border=336699&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpagead2.googlesyndication.com***%2Fpagead%2Fshow_ads.js

(stars added by me to fool the automatic link parsing)

Edit: It must be something at my end as it only does it in Opera. Anyone know why?

Use a different browser. I use Mozilla and its built-in pop-up blocker is awesome.

I used to browse in IE and I didn't have any problems at all o.0

You might have some adware on your machine. I've got some on my laptop which opens popups on pages.. can't for the life of me get rid of the bloody thing either.

If that's spyware using google ads... could you not report them to google using the tracking stuff and thusly get them "pwned" by the authorities?

Its spyware, theres plenty of spyware removes about, I use:

    NoAdware
    Spybot S&D
    Spyhunter
    Spyware Blaster
    Xoft Spy
    Bazooka Spyware Scanner
Advanced Uninstaller Pro - has new features

With other protection - McAfee Firewall, Norton Anitvirus, Zonealarm

You might call me paranoid, but you can't be too careful, look after your pc, and it'll look after you.

Oh yea, I got 2 popup blockers - google and incredibar.

Bit-tech adverts are allright cos as ^ said, they dont come straight into your face and they are related to what we are interested in.

However, I think the adverts needs changing a bit more.

    Try Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D.

If those 2 don't get rid of what is causing the pop-ups you could also try HiJack This!
You will want to be carefull what you do with HiJack This! though because you can easily screw something up.

EDIT: Just noticed the HiJack This! website is down atm.
I have uploaded the utility on my webspace for you, get it here.

Hope you get rid of that crap ;)

WXPSP2? Windows XP Service Pack 2, just download it on my laptop, and I have to say that the popup blockers work a hell lot better than other popup blockers which I used to use such as google, now my IE bar looks better without the google thing :p

Found it! For some reason Opera was treating the ad at the bottom of the page as a file to be downloaded.

Thanks for all the spyware scanners, my system is now real clean!

Did a google search on Bittech and Popup ads, found this old old thread. I haven't had popup ads for years, but now Bittech seems to be dishing them out. What's the go?
