I have been trying to set up my Netgear wireless router to allow port forwarding so I can play COD4 with a list of more than 10 servers. My problem is that I can't get into my router setting via http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/ because it won't accept my username or password. I have now reset the router 5 times, each time i get taken to a red screen where I'm asked to put in a new SSID, a key reminder and a password, but no matter what I put in them, when it come to accessing http://192.168.1.1/ it still won't let me in. Netgear support seem to think if I reset the router enough time it might somehow work for me but I thought maybe some one here might know what the hell I'm doing wrong, or if there is a way around it. Im using Vista 64bit and a Netgeat Wireless router (WGR614v9). My internet is provided by Virgin Media.
The Netgear site tells me to hold the reset button, turn off the power and then, with the button still pressed, turn it back on and hold it for 20 seconds. Thats what I have been doing and as far as i know it been working as each time Vista has to try and find the network again.
Did you try logging in without a password? On Dlink routers default is admin (username) with no password. Not sure Netgear though.
I've tried everything conceivable now. It just doesn't like my user name or password, no matter how much I reset it or anything. Looks like I will just have to fork out for anotehr router or wait for my landline so i can call the tech support at virgin media.
Found it. If you use virgin media User : virgin Password: password 2 days of frustration and the answer was less than a meter from me on the bottom of the dam router
