Cause the price of components on gfx cards goes upwards it seems as they extend the boundaries of the products: IE use of DDR then DDR2 and 150+ million transistor chips when a P4 is only 55-70million etc (P4 EE is 178million though, but bloody expensive).

Shelf life of other components is longer too than say, 6 months. Also gfx cards dont all have the same stuff on them - they use a range of rams and a range of chips.

Does ATI have any plans to introduce silent computing to their high end cards?

For me Nvidia blew it when they attached a dyson to their card, if ATI brought out a quiet card I'd upgrade to it.

    A few questions....

    1. Does Ati Plan to release any cards with memory above 256MB anytime soon?

    2. With the reported .09 micron core of Intel's prescott chip soon to be released, does ati plan to move over to .09micron cores for their cards?

    3. (may have been done) If ati does release modular cards, would it be possible to build your own ati card with whatever specs you wanted? (such as r350 core, 512mb ram, etc...)

does ATI have any plans to introduce a dual-head All in Wonder?

does ATI have any plans to introduce modded Cards ala DFI's motherboards with UV reactive components or onboard activity LEDs?

Will there be any onboard connectivity to help facilitate utilising LCDs (3.5", etc) instead of running cables out of the back of the card, eg. can there be onboard headers for certain things?

Does ATI intend to continue with their current red PCB colouring or are there plans to go iMac style with a different colour everyday, like some other manufacturers have?

Are there any plans to go into the multi-monitor market (eg. 3+ monitors)?

Depends on the FAB. Intel have their own FABs so can make their own process. ATi chips are made at TSMC (iirc) which have only just perfected the .13u process for them. It takes a quite bit of effort to move to even smaller, and the 9800s are still 0.15u i think.

Mence - I believe that the new 9600 AIW has 2x VGA / DVI connectors on...
(Though I'm still waiting for more details, reviews and to see them on sale in the UK)
    - May well B wrong bout that...?

are ati going to bring back quad-head cards, like some of the radeon 7000's? rather than make a 256mb r9800xt, why not completely blow nvidia out of the water and make a 512mb veresion?

in regard to the smaller manufacturing process, why dont ati approach intel about making their gpu cores?

ATi website's 9600 doesn't seem to say that..... It does mention Dual TV tuners though (for picture in picture), which is admittedly very cool, but it's not dual monitor according to the image posted on the corporate website.

I'd still like to be wrong though :naughty:

I have the AIW 9600 Pro...

Dual TV TUNERS?! The second cable-looking jack on the back is for an FM tuner.

Dual VGA monitors are possible, if you look at that weird plug in the back it has 30 pins. 10 for each VGA out, 3 for line out, 2 for composite out, s-video...

My dealings with ATi in the past have usally been less than plesent due to driver issues. I've been reluctant to spend a lot of money on a good video card that may have driver issues. What steps has ATi taken to adress the issue, and what is currently happening to ensure the qualiy of the drivers remains high? Can I expect this to extent to all ATi products? For ecxample, I'm currently dissatisfied with multimedia center.

Does ATi see a future in hardware based physics acceleration such as calculating differental equations and other intensive operations?

Since some job questions have been posted, I'll ask if ATi does internships. I'm an EE student with an interest in computer and CPU architecture digital signal processing, and other topics in digital design.

    Practicality:

Noone can afford a 512meg version
Few companies make 64meg ram chips (single BGA chips) = uber expensive.
No need for 256, let alone 512meg video memory really yet.
Intel are using their own FABs for prescott research. Theyll outsource 0.09u process technology to others thru patents = more money. They havent even perfected the process yet as the prescotts are >100W for <100Mil transistors. Convert that into a ~150-200Mil transistor chip and you have 200W?? of heat to contend with.
ATi probably have an contract with TSMC.

Probably to late, but here goes!

    1. I believe Sapphire recently demoed a [not working] dual chip Radeon R350 board, although it had issues regarding heat. Even given this not inconsiderable technical issue companies would then need to write their own drivers to support the card. Would ATI consider adding support for 2/4/8 chip versions of their cards in the drivers to allow for manufactuers to build multi chip Radeon cards without additional problems regarding drivers? Would multi chip Radeons work in tandem or independently?

    2. How has ATI's focus changed over the past decade? In terms of product, performance, drivers, market, etc...

    3. Do you have an plans in place to enforce testing on 3rd party products to make sure known problems like display quality are up to specification?

    4. What happened to the R400? Present roadmaps indicate a jump to R420.

Please make your existing drivers work before you start doing this idea. Once they work (in Linux, please) then this is a great idea.
