i moved into halls yesterday and i finaly got some info on the internet they provide. and i have to log in to get to any pages. im wondering wether this will effect my router when i set it up, or if it will just work like normal through the router.

i stupidly forgot extra ethernet cables so ive only got one at the moment, will be picking some up today hopfuly. so anyone had experince with this kind of issue?

You probably need to mac spoof your PC

Check your Terms and Conditions as you may be refused if it happens.

Otherwise you can set up ICS through your PC

In the terms it states that you can't attach switches (or routers, hubs,...) to the room sockets.

If course, if you REALLY want it, build yourself an gateway PC (like IPCop), and attach that to the socket. On the other side of the gateway PC you can have your own network without breaking the terms.

EDIT: Don't think MAC spoofing would be needed if you do it tough, that rule is probably in place to prevent the DHCP server from running out of IP's to dish out.

Wall Socket <---> Gateway PC <---> Router (!used as switch!)

Can you boot from cd and input some network parameters? ;) Easy as dandy... :D

When I moved into halls, I just spoke to the friendly sys admin and explained that I wanted to run a dedicated game server for everyone on ResNet and he said OK :D
