Pr0n for the masses

Latest brainwave from the Liberal Democrats: relaxing the rules on porn. Their suggestion is that 16 year olds should be allowed to read/watch/access/buy pornography and various, erm, products, from sex shops that are currently restricted to 18 year olds.

A relaxation of the laws to permit what is essentially the status quo? Or the further corruption of the morals of our nation's youth? Personally I've never seen the logic in the two year gap between being allowed to do it and being allowed to watch it. Is there a reason for it?

only 2 years? in canada the gap is 4.

 

More than likely because the plain old act of copulation is more than accessible at 16 years old and teens at this age are classed as no longer a minor, therefore they are allowed to reproduce. (What kind of society takes away a humans basic right to have children..? 16 is about as low as you can go without people screaming about human rights)

However the act of 'sex for pleasure' has been reserved for those more mature practicers of the art and as such, aids to that act are only for sale to them.

So far as pornography/sex aids being 'corrupt' .. that is more heavily debatable than if they should be allowed access to them or not.

 

on the other hand (no pun intended... well maybe) any 16 year old that is prevented from accessing pr0n nowadays because of legislation deserves to wait...

In my house, I ain't gonna rely on any law to regulate what my kids access. I predict it to be quite the chess match... IP packet to knight 1337 firewall...

 

bah, kids are going to look at porn, I suppose there's a limit as to what is excessive. I mean, "xxx lesbian nun bondage" may be a little excessive, but I really see nothing wrong with a playboy or what have you. Heck, the articles are good too

I think it depends on the context and what the kid gets out of it. If they emerge into early adulthood with an open mind and maybe some understanding of how to satisfy a woman and not be a complete noob in bed, well that'll only help.

If they completely objectify women, view them as only as sex objects, well, that's clearly wrong. I believe this is something that one will explain to the kids when you have "the talk".

of course, these are just my opinions, I could be wrong.

I would agree that 16 year olds lack the maturity to appreciate sex toys and understand porn for what it is: fiction (note the genuinely surprised look on a number of male faces when you inform them that all women are not lesbians). However to prevent them from accessing such things just strikes me as odd. Porn because they clearly already do. Sex toys because who are the government to tell you how to live your sex life just because you're in that critical 16-18 "gap"?

i dont see what the fuss is cos the laws in britain on what can be shown cut so much out & what cant be shown its not even porn anyway

hey, I don't think we should really care about this one. From the day I had internet I had access to porn, and before that on the shows after 11pm on TV.

My parents were/are always very loose about the whole "sex"-subject, they allways say "it's better you learn it here than on the streets". They wouldn't mind if I watched pornmovies, read pornmagazines or whatever. Maybe it's because of that I'm not so interested in all that porn-stuff.

Anyway, I think this is a bit the same like the "make weed legal"-discussion, you know? With the differince that this is completly harmless and weed maybe not.

from what a friend has told me, at 16 you are not allowed to view a naked body, thus having sex is somewhat illegal unless you can not see the other persons body.

anyhow yeah the porn laws are sorta outta place with the internet and they should be taken down to 16,

for all you worried parents out there look at it like this, theyre gonna see it weather you GPS bug track em or not. now heres an intresting fact. the ruins of pompei (well not ruins but...) when excavated found some pottery and paintings that depicted romans and roman gods in many sexual relations ranging from sex with ermm animals and with each other. archeologists took it upon themselves to create a secret museum at the museum of archeology because these findings were too disruptive for public viewing. they censored who was allowed into this mueseum.
