I live in an apartment with three other people, we have one big tv, one xbox 360, and we all have computers. I'm running Vista, so the extender comes installed and lets me listen to music/videos on the tv, which is all fine and good, except for the fact that anyone sitting at the tv with the 360 remote has access to all the media on my pc, no matter if its in a shared folder or not.

Is there a way to prevent them from browsing any files other than what I've added to the library?

is it really set up that badly?? that is shocking on MSs part!

could you find out what user it uses to view the files (i guess its done over C$ etc)

    so do a

"net sessions" from command, find the user, and then remove access to the hard disks/folders from the file permission area on the folders.

to be fair I am shocked that the 360 can browse EVERYTHING its quite bad -- check the 360s settings to see how it is browsing the folders as well -- you could remove the C$ etc shares and then add some shares for the folders that you want shared.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that there isnt a privacy lockdown of some kind. Say I was a parent and didnt want my children viewing the files on my computer?

I found something that might work, we'll see how well it gets along vista.

Edit: Just a heads up. I would not recommend installing KIP on Vista. Lets just say it took two days to regain access to my personal files and I won't be getting my xp partition working any time soon.
