Let me just say that I know this has been done before. Now then, recently my friends and I have been having LAN parties regularly and it is annoying to move my computer because it has no side panels. Therefore, I decided to make something easy to carry. This is the case before any work: These are where the 120mm fans will go (on the lid) These are the holes for the ports on the side: I’ve done more work, but I’m not going to post it until it looks slightly more finished. I wanted to get this up so you guys could start throwing advice at me.
Interesting start... good work. I like the idea of the suitcase even if it has been done before. Look forward to see what is being done... Good Luck
I love those suitcases. So sexy! Nice port cuts, I don't like it when the entire panel is cut out and you have that fugly metal thingy there. Though I'd like to see a suitcase mod that was completely stealthed on the outside...though that might prove hard because of air flow. Maybe having a case where you leave it open while running, not contained.
I guess Uploadit bit the big one, i'll get them up as soon as I can find a host. Got a hostics working.
I've finished the cutting and put the ports in and done the first round of paint. This is the case immediatly before painting: Here it is after some paint: With the harware on it: It's still looking a little rough, but i'll worry about that when it's closer to completion.
looks like it could be good, how did you cut the ports on the back i wanted to do this on mine but the ports were weird shapes and looked hard to measure/cut (i spose my case was different texture on the outside this made it hard) good to see more briefcases!
What I did is basically cut the rough shapes (because I don't have the hand to cut very accurately) and then used a putty to fill in and smooth out the spaces and then painted over it. I still have a little smoothing to so though.
If you and your friends do a bit of LANing, you should look into incorporating an 8 or 16 port switch (depending how many friends you have ) into the case....
I was going to do that in the last case, but we have a 24 port hub and I don't think everyone wants to be tethered to my computer. I'm still considering putting a wireless router in it though.
Yes, but a switch = dedicated bandwidth rather than the hub's one big collision domain... Wireless router would be cool too, there's usually 4-5 wired ports there too (enough for you and a few of your closest mates)...
this has compelled me to make a breif case pc too!!ty! urs is lookin AWSOME! nice job mate brefcases are always awsome(ease of movein)
My drillpress couldn't reach. I'll be putting them in when my grills arrive. http://www.advanced-intelligence.com/case.html Goodluck to you on your case xrain.
Today I wired up and installed the PSU: Inside: Outside: The back of the ports and LCD: The obligatory reflection shot(sorry for the bad lighting. It's really much more relfective than this)
Just some pics of the work I've done since the last ones: And the web of cables i have yet to shorten:
Just thoguht I would post this small update. I took some time today to shorten some cables. The one that made the biggest differance is the video cable. Lots of wires and Lots of shielding. (i hope the lack of shielding wont screw it up) Finished enoguh for testing and it works (woot)
