Here is my project log to turn a simple beige box into something little more special.

    Pic 1

Basically to create a custom front i decided to use the old one a little. I cut the front off at its bend to leave a frame. To this Ive attached a piece of perspex with some custom holes as you can see here

    Pic 2

Holes for a fan grill, 2 buttons, and LCD contrast knob and LCD. Also a space for 2 cd/dvd drives. Dont worry about the appearence. The whole thing will be covered with something kewl. Trust me.

    Pic 3

Heres a pic of some of the custom bits for the front. A bag of ultra-bright led's ( you'll have to wait for the reason for these :D ) Two tamper proof buttons which are really nice but cost me £6.44 ex vat each :( and a nice contrast knob. These are to match the front once its done ;)

I'll be posting a few more pics in the next couple of days/weeks depending on how it progresses

I can't wait to see what you're gonna do with all those LEDs, man...

And daydreamingknight, your case looks really amazing from what I can see in your avatar. Do you have any project logs for it?

Do you really need a contrast knob on the front? How much do you change the contrast on the LCD? I set mine once and it's been fine since...

The PC sits on the floor and depending on how far back I sit or how far I tilt in the chair the display becomes unreadable.

In real terms I suppose I could do without it, but Its something else to tinker with :naughty:

After doing a bit more work I've taken a few piccies for your enjoyment :)

    Pic 4

Here is the front with all the supports araldited in. Note only the 4 at the corners have screw thread. The other are just for support.

    Pic 5

This is the stuff im using to cover the case. Its a plastic that looks like metal. Its actually a thin perspex like material with a silver foilish coating. I found a few sheets of it left over from and old product at work.

    Pic 6

Heres the front covered with the faux metal. It has been stuck down with double sided tape and super glue where needed.
Note the fan grill, this wont have a fan behind but something special :D

The cutout for the LCD is only large enough for the lcd screen to show and not the black bezel.

    Pic 7

Heres a close up showing one of the nice but expensive buttons and that contrast knob. Gawd I love that contrast knob !

Well the project seems to be coming along nicely, comments please :)

Biege is the most common color in the universe (visable spectrum). Let's tilt the scales!

    It's looking pretty good!
