This is, as you may have guessed, a car MP3 player. I'm putting it in a case made out of sheet metal, designed to complement the other planned mods to the car (basically rebuilding the dash to use sheet metal, green LED's and military-style warning stickers.) Concept for the case coming later...:)

Anyway, here's the sketches for the layout of components inside the case.

    Hardware is as follows:

    P133
    8 meg EDO ram
    4 gig hard drive
    cirrus PCI video card
Soundblaster 16 ISA (the hoooge one)
AT power supply, powered by inverter.

Obviously, the final case will have fans etc in.

Concept for the case will be posted later.

    Update:

RAM has been raised to 24 meg, because it will be running a cutdown Win98.

    - this is my preliminary idea for the case. Tell me what you think.

    :)

By the way, control will be by a custom remote, painted with same colour scheme.

i too am looking at doing an in car pc...
was thinking of tryin to hook it up to a screen for movie playback, or visualizations for the tunes, also a seperate control unit with basic movie/sound controls....
the soundcard would be a SB live... so i could hook up the front and rear and sub outputs to my amps already in place :)

    keeps us updated chap ;)

supprised no ones shown any interest in this.. guess not everyones onto cars

anyhow was thinking, not sure what ur budgets like,. but if u could get the mobo with onboard everything then it would save alot of room :)
my plans to embed it into my boot install and make it a feature, but its still gonna be as small as possible :)

was considering an extra for it to take inputs from sensors on my car, and have them displayed on the video screen, speed, oil temp etc.. would interface with a PIC chip... could also data log too for errors on the car

    Images fixed.

Phil - this was exactly what I was thinking about doing.

The project's on hold for now because I'm a little busy, but I will be posting some more designs soon. Does anyone know a good source for a small touchscreen TFT? 5", 7" or something. Preferably with a serial mouse output (because I'm using an AT mobo ;))

I have an Athlon 800 and an old Celeron hanging around, just didn't want to use them for this project, when I have stuff that already does what I want :) Size doesn't really matter to me, as I'll probably end up mounting it in the boot (appearence still important though, because it's going in a perfectly restored car). I might change the colour scheme to red to go with the Mini's paint colour - opinions anyone?

    Hi,
    Good luck with the project.

    My hifi mp3box

I did this project a few years ago, but hopefully it may be of help to you. P133 will be fine for MP3's :)
