This is my first mod and as i dont have any experience i am starting it quite small with just painting, windows and lighting etc.. I got my wavemaster about 3 weeks ago am finally getting round to modding it  ...

Here is the only picture i have of it at the moment :worried:

And here is what i plan to do to it (extremely rubbish drawing :D )

The white HL2 logo is going to be a window (as you'd probably have guessed) and will be cut out with a dremel (when i get one :duh: )
The window will be lit with 2 12" white cathodes and the front two led's will be changed from blue to white to match. I will probably change the HDD activity LED to white aswell.
    Anyway...

I started by taking the case apart...

    here are all the bits:

NOTE: PICTURES WILL BE OF A MUCH HIGHER QUALITY IN THE NEXT UPDATES...

I am just going down to the garage to pick up some paint + high grit sand paper for wet sanding. Will i need primer? And do you think i should change anything in the idea?

    Cheers.

No, I think it would look cool, if you can pull it off...... But maybe a bit ambitious if it's your first time with a dremel.:dremel:

Yeah, but i suppose i am rather ambitious :D If i find it hard doing the logo i will probably not get round to doing the text along the bottom... Who knows though and thanks for the input.

Great Idea!!! I love HL2 so this is brillient :thumb:
To get the best finish with your paint, its best to have some primer first :)

    Good Luck

The sketch looks great! Nice idea going white/orange. Only problem I can see is that the centre of the HL2 logo will have to be stuck to the window itself - probably not a problem actually.

The lettering would look good cut-out, but if you are worried about it, you could always get it printed on white vinyl instead?

I'm subscribing to this as your initial idea is so good. Keep us updated!

Read up on painting and it maybe easier to add a nice shape window and then add half life too with frosted decals maybe?

Thats an expensive case, be careful mate!

    Good luck!

I thought i might need primer, Thanks.

Cheers, yup the actual centre of the logo and the 2 will have to be cut out with the spare from the inside of the main cut and stuck on the acrylic using some kind of strong glue. The vinyl idea sounds very good, but ill probably have a crack at cutting them anyway :D

lol yep t'was rather expensive, you know of any good painting quides any were? thanks.

By all means, give it a go! Try it on a scrap piece first (spare drive-bay bezel or something) and then you'll know if you can do it or not.

Remember some wet/dry paper (for preparing and between coats) along with some clear coat/lacquer for finishing! You may also need some masking tape!

I got 2 cans of orange, a can of primer and some 1000 grit to give the primer something to grip to.

This mod is a great one, especially becuase its your first one you've done and its nice and simple and because its just a paint job, you don't have to worry about any drilling or cutting, which would complicate things etc etc...
If you look at a few tutorials on spray painting and finishing it off to creat a really great finish it off... try this tutorial
