Oh wow, this mod is like freaking good sex so far. You don't want it to end! I love the eject button in the power button too :)

The sides are in full action. Like everything else, they're made of 3mm Aluminium.

I'm cutting out holes for the external HDDs that'll be peeking up on the sides.

Yup, that's how I like it

... but I scrapped that idea, and cut a large hole instead... :duh: :D
    [IMG]

...and slapped on a large piece of transparent acrylic (I know it is'nt showing on the images).

A small cover-plate for the external HDD-ports, when they are'nt in use.

The sides would be way too dull without any details. I thought of doing a a large etch over the entire acrylic. It ended with me making a small compromise :D [IMG]

... and the other side of the window...

    The (so far) unbrushed result.

Some engraving is about to be done. The image was made in photoshop.

    Almost done, looking good :)

All done, and the result is a lot better then expected  :hip: :D

Damn, now I just have to do another one just like this :wallbash:

    I like the HDD's poping out ;)

Looks like ou got some skills at engraving, i'm guelous. I want a flexshaft! Hard to engrav without a shaft.

    EDIT:
You can make your engraving look better if you use a grinding-bit after you engraved it ;)

Sweet, but i think an orange/ alu cover should be made for the drives.

I think what would be cool is instead, mount a sheet of plexi to the bottom of the HDD, and polish the front. It would fit in with the theme (assuming you polish the alu in the end... if not then brush the HDD cover...
And, are you going to make the HDDs hot swappable? (SATA, and mounted connectors that the HDD slide into) cause that would give a nice reason to have them sticking out :)

That would be sick swappable harddrives so you can just boot up computer to computer.

As most of might have noticed, it's been a while... This is because I'm in the middle of my mandatory military education, and because of that I'm only at home in the weekends... It'll be some time between updates.

The masking tape has been peeled of, and the metal has been brushed.

A small "frame" made of 2.5mm aluminium has been fitted around the etching to gain some depth. Also, there is a polished mesh behind it (not sure if i'm going to use it)...

    The mesh. Polished, not chromed...

The other side is done *phew*
    [IMG]

Next thing to be done is the top... See you in a while...

Looks absolutely amazing. Crazy etching skills, by the way. The one thing that I would change is that I think on the drive side of the aluminum mounts for the etched plexi, I would remove the middle piece of aluminum. It's just a tiny bit too busy compared to the rest of the case.

    Again, awesome case.
