I don't know why they call you idle hands. It takes me forever to get anything done. Some of the people here have too much time. I work 40 hours a week and do 12 units of college classes. so it may take me a while.

"Idle Hands" is the project name. For those whom don't get it, basically, when I started this project I didn't have anything better to do, my hands we're at "idle" as it we're. Thusly, this monstrosity was born. BTW, tomorrow (if I get time) I'll be buffing the psu on this thing and doing a few things to the wiring (as well as figuring out why the LED's don't light up properly).

    Looks good! :D  :thumb:

Hehe, i know what your talking about with the text lag. My computer is doing it right now, not bad but still... It's a P2 166MHz. That old 66MHz HP Vectra Multimedia PC in the corner is just asking to be modded. Maybe later.

Welp, I decided it was time for a change. So, insted of polishing this thing up today like I was going to, I'm going to actualy format the hdd and install..... Linux! :D My first serious try at it. I'm following the "Lo-Fat Apache/FTP server using Slackware" guide located Here Wish me luck (system's booting now via boot disks...)

No comment? :eyebrow: Umm, ok, intersting....... And I thought I was weird... Anyway, stupid thing is erroring out now.... The second install floppy disk isn't loading (giving me cnc or whatever errors like crazy).... Ah well, I'll get it figured out.

[EDIT] OK, not CNC errors, it's "CRC". Heres a bit of the error I'm getting:

Loading install.2 floppy into RAM disk... floppy0: data CRC error: track 0, head 0, sector 18, size 2

It just keeps going like that for like 10ish lines. And it does this with 2 different disks.... So I'll try another one, and hopefuly that works...[/EDIT]

try download whatever image you used to make the floppies again. crc is an error checking method, basically it says your floppy image ain't what it's supposed to be.

The floppy image came off the slackware install CD that I have. But trying the third floppy seemed to fix the problem, and it's installing now :D Thanks just the same though :thumb:

    lol, heres my opinion

this mod violates robot's modding rule #3-

Never do a mod that you wont use,

and it also violates rule #1

If you're gonna make a mod, put time into it and make it look good

BUT THATS WHAT MAKES THIS THING FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!

OK, fistly, I am not violating the rule, I'm throwing a server onto it, as I do intend to use it as a server :baby:. Secondly, I have put time into it, and it does look good :worried:. Thridly, why yes, it is freaking awesome :D :p

Thats what I get at boot up. It won't go any further than that. I'm figuring reinstall, or just go back to 95b....

Slackware 9.1, or 8.1, or 9.0, or...... Not 100% sure :D All's I know is it's slackware, and was the most reacent when I dl'ed it. Anyway, I was told it was a problem with the loader program, maybe I've screwed up lilio or something. I'm going to try reconfigurating lilio and seeing if that works.

Yea, its a Lilo problem, and I have had it before. Did you use a CD or Floppy to boot into the installer? If you used the CD, you can use the info at its boot prompt to get into your already installed setup, and all you should need to do is maybe make some changes to /etc/lilo.conf and rerun lilo.

This particular system was built before CD-ROMs became "main stream". IE, the only way I could install was via floppy :p I did actualy have a problem installing lilio though. When I entered in the correct info and followed the guide exactly, it said that it couldn't install to the mbr. Then I messed arround with it and magically it installed :D But as it would seem, I messed something up lol. Ah well, live and learn.

[EDIT] Oh, if it helps, I used the "old_cd.i" kernal as the basic.i one didn't take [/EDIT]

one thing you might try is in the BIOS configuration, staticly setup the Hard disks info, and make sure you don't use the lba32 option in the config. also make sure you set at least one partion with the bootable flag in fdisk. if you used cfdisk it will warn about this any way. normally thats not a problem, but its something worth looking into. you might try letting slackware come up with a simple lilo conf automaticly, as it tends to work fine, but don't use the special vga options for higher res, as it probably won't work on that old of hardware.

Thanks so much for the help :thumb: Anyway, I'm in the setup bit again for slackware, booted up via the setup floppy's, and I've run into a problem. Theres no option to setup/edit lilio... :wallbash: Stupid thing. Anyway, I'm going to reboot and try the bios bit now, I'm sure it's setup correctly, but I'll take a wack at it anyway.

[EDIT] YAY! My kernal paniced!!! Whatever that means anyway :worried: All's I know is, the system isn't quite locked up, and the keyboard numlock/capslock/functionlock buttons are flashing in some alien pattern. I think my computers speaking in binary to me :worried: [/EDIT]
