ok, ive decided to get my modding ass in gear and build a plexi case. i have to wait till easter hols b4 i do this, but these r the designs for my ickle lan box, what dyu all think? thats top layout view and thats from the front and right side. the psu and cd-rw/dvd will both be mounted on the same side, as this makes the front totally clean except for the on button, and the moby ports will be on the oposite side. i was thinking of a slot loading cd-rw/dvd as it will be easier to cut a slot into the plexi then try and incorperate the whole tray, it also gives me a lil extra room at the side of the case, without having to find somewhere to put it without too much clearance from the side. itll be a matx board with sound n lan already on it, as its just going to be a gaming system, thats pretty much all i need, so i dont need to use the pci slots. i would mount the cd-rw/dvd on its side, but it would block more of the view of the gfx card, which hopefull will have a spotlight going straight on it from a few hidden leds do you guys n gals think itll work? what suggestions you got? edit:: the dimentions are going to be (inside) 320mmx320mmx125mm (outside) 332mmx332mmx131mm so small
Re: project bloo-lan nice to see you took my advice, but im very impressed with the design work tommeh! As for "will it work", I have no idea, but make sure u get some pics up mate! Of this in developement!
Well, as far as if it will work or not... where are the fans? Or is there supose to be enough air through the PSU?
What about putting the bulky hardware items under the motherboard? That way you would have a direct view of everything on the motherboard, including that graphics card you have highlighted so well on. Looks good and a nice plan.
Looks like you have a plan, go for it! Make sure there are lots of blue lights I might add, though, that imho you will need more than the PSU fan
as for fans, there will be the psu fans of course, one intake above the hsf, one intkake above the gfx and an exhaust on the back. i want the case to be as "flat" as possible, which is why it is only as tall as the gfx. once i draw up plans for the panels, ill put em up and show you the full design, thats just the layout view
that plexi you showed me was only 3mm thick, which i think is a little too flimsy, although there wont be that much weight in the case at all. im not sure whether to go for blue or smoked atm, or even purple, that would be cool
its looking good so far how about this for a name project cheryl's gonna nick this off me (as we allknow she will )
no, she is just gonna nick my laptop off me once ive finished here at uni. loads of fun! but ill have 2 pcs at home to play with, so i dont mind
Thats a cool layout. Its not that tricky to do , i did something similar a few years back and that took 3 months of lazy planning and about 5 days to make.
nice lil case how hard was it to get the psu to work like that??? its the psu in that design which is giving me the headaches...
Its strange but ive had the exact same idea!!!!! Got an epox 8RGA+ & a Gainward GF4 Ultra lying here waiting to get a new case!!! Basicly i thought id make a little case that was the width of a graphics card and just longer than a motherboard so its easy to transport to play games/svcd on a normal telly!!! As for the questions regarding cooling remember that the width of a graphics card allows for a full heatsink+80mm fan! also if needed 2x80mm fans next to the CPU!! 1 thing that i wouldnt recomend is the placement of the PSU the way you have it wires are going to be coming out of 2 side if you know what i mean, What i plan to do is make a normal PSU flatter by bending the heatsink and hopefully it will fit resting on the PCI slots Get modding mate im close behind just finishing this damn lian li
