Yeah - you are a pro with the Dremel. That is for sure. It must be all the Bass (Burton on Trent...). When you settle on a fan / cooling, I would like to know. At some point I am going to take a Shuttle and turn it into a TiVO, but I want it to be quiet. I also doubt there will be enought room for watercooling, but I don't want a bunch of noise near my TV in my livingroom all the time.
that was my first ever time using a dremel lol didnt even practice just cut and for the fans, if it hasnt got a 250w silentx psu in, get one and also replace the ice fan with a sharkoon SL1 i think there called (check www.sfftech.com forums for more info) also as im using the onboard graphics i will replace the northbridge fan with a zalman. Also i would recommend seagate barraucda drives as they are very quiet. If you dont want to use onboard graphics (GF4 on the sn41g2 and the tv out quality is superb) it maybe worth getting a fanless graphics card, some of the sapphire 9600's are passively cooled i believe. An update to the mod- I drilled holes along my line for the cd window and then just cut through little bits with the dremel and put on a stone sanding block to smooth it out, its still a bit wonky but will file it out properly tomorrow. Plans for tomorrow: Order cable braiding, LED's, resistors, uv cathodes, vga cable (for psone screen mod) and also pay for the psone screen. Also cut the top window
good ideas so far. as to the switch panel, projects Bliss Unleashed and MacroBlack both had what you are describing.
^^ are those available in the U.S. ? i would really like one, but I cant find a american retailer! any suggestions? Thanks!
stuck in my business class at the moment. Just payed for the psone screen, and am emailing a forum member for more detailed advice on wiring it up. I aim to have the screen completed for the weekend. Also going to finish cdrom window tonight. read the tutorials section and saw a nice thing on badging so i did a test- and also here is the current state of my cd drive. not looking to healthy as you can see, needs a LOT of TLC and work
Why dont you get the cathodes from ebuyer, 1/3 the price?! Also get your leds from www.ultraleds.co.uk Still, this should be a sweet project!
Use a jigsaw and a guide (a piece of wood clamped to the metal (or the jigsaw may have a 'fence')) best i could find on quick google: http://www.readersdigest.co.uk/diy/webpages/157.htm
but.... if u buy things from many web stores, the price will get higher because of the shipment.. I live in belgum for the time being (a crap country when it comes to computers), and I buy my stuff from england and the u.s.... no wonder i have little money
You are saying you are from belgium....(in the box to the left of your text it says--> Location: Norway. )...but if you are in BE....why don't you order you thinks from The Netherlands, up north? I live there and I got some hella good shops here Last thing, I think he made those holes on purpose just to have fun. . Am I right? Cheers, Xeno out!
its the only way i could cut the steel. drill holes then jus hammer out the middle. My dremel didnt even scratch it. Total cost for all the shipping will be about £10 so not to much. Theres 2 4inch cathodes for £11, not to bad really. Didnt end up doing anything to it tonight, drank to much beer to start as well
Just got a mail back from kustompcs.co.uk regarding the chrome edging- Our supplier for this item went out of business and we can't find a new source, so we're unlikely to have this product again for some time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Graeme Clark, Kustom PCs www.kustompcs.co.uk does anyone have another source for it? i cant find it anywhere else
Do me a favour, could you? 1. Resize those damned images (If you want to make LINKS to the full-sized ones from smaller thumbnails, please do) 2. Please PLEASE tell me you're going to file that CD drive back... And outlaw whatever the hell you ripped it out with? Thanks.
cant be bothered to resize images =D will link them instead. I couldnt find anything to cut the steel with,d ont worry it will be sorted withs oem good hard work. Recieved the PS one screen today, my only option is to wire it to VGA. aint got a clue how really or a bodge job idea to test it with either. http://www.btinternet.com/~im_woody2k2/project/IMG_0735.JPG
