Well, I finally finished my design for my new case. I call it, the lunchbox... Entire case is built from Plexi-glass. There will almost definitely be more fans in the case, along with etching/lighting. Right now, I plan on using a UV CCL to highlight somethings on the board. Plan on doing the UV drawing style shown here Any questions? Comments? This is going to be my first mod, so I may need some help. Tell me what you think
that looks really nice you thinking of actually making it portable? so you can use it at lunch, or is the name just because of the shape and style?
/me likes the design... the fans at the top are at optimum position, I assume one sucks and the other blows?... I just ordered a load of uv reactive acrylic from delvies... should be here today/tomorrow.. getting itchy to use it, looking forward to seeing this project progress.
Is it going to be made out of clear acrylic or is that just an effect you've put on so we can see inide the design?
It's going to be clear acrylic, so that you can see the mobo circuitry light up when the UV light is on. It's an ATX mobo, so I didn't design it for portability. Also, forgot to mention that I plan on windowing the HDD and CD-RW.
If that's a full atx motherboard, maybe you should consider calling it Project Treasure Chest. Looks like it will be very cool.
My only concern is how readily the PSU will be able to get air for cooling... Is it going to exit fromt he side underneath the mobo? *n
looking good! are u going to leave it all clear? perhaps u should think of doing som painting Macroblack Style.
Acrylic Question Okay, I got some money to put towards this project now . I was wondering what the best thickness of Acrylic sheets to use would be. I have to bend the acrylic in a half-circle, so I'm not sure if creases would be that big of a problem. I was thinking of going with the 1/8th inch.....Any comments on this?
1/4th inch is extremely rigid and strong, if u are an absolute strength freak go for 3/8 inch(but be warned it is HEAVY). 1/4th can be bent, but takes ages to heat each joint and u have to use a low heat to avoid bubbling and such. 1/8th is best for bending, but with ure curves, I suggest using casting resin or vacuum forming(I have no experience there, but it seems most logical) btw, if that is an extended atx mobo, this should be called project plexiglass casket, as it will be fecking huge
Modified Project - 3/5/81 (Happy B-Day to ME!!) Well, as part of my b-day present to myself, I've decided to scrap this project and start a new one. The case design is up in my head, but not on "paper" yet. I won't give away my idea yet, except to say that it will have water, but won't be water-cooled I'll post a pic of my design within the next couple of days under the project name "THE CORE"
Unfortunately, Jethro, that case design has been scrapped. I have a new one in my head. Getting it down on paper right now. Will post pics of my idea as soon as they are done....Will probably start a new thread though...
