So I'm speccing up a new build R5 1600 using my current GTX970 and putting them in a Fractal Design R5. However I'm already going a bit above budget and wondered whether I could re-use my current 500W PSU. It's 5 years old now and has been happily driving my i5 2500K all that time, but I don't really know the power draw of modern equipment.

So recommendations please. If I don't keep the old one what could I safely get away with if I'm overclocking the 1600?

As long as it's got all the connectors you need, should be fine, though 5 years is quite old really. The specs for the 2500k seem to show it draws a lot more juice than the Ryzen chip.

Depends IMO. What PSU is it? what model etc?

TBH I would check it and see if there is any bulge in the caps etc.

As Splosh said, these chips don't chew through watts like older gen chips do :)
