I just got a great deal on a pair of used 7970s locally, and was wondering if my PSU was up to the task.. I'm guessing no. Any reasonably priced recommendations? IDC about whether it's modular or not Was looking at this discounted (and fairly old) Kingwin unit, Super Flower OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121070 I could even just get a second PSU, my TJ07 has two bays... Anyone have experience with an Add2Psu or similar product? I could just pick up a second TX650V2 and call it a day
Use an online PSU calculator such as: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp ..then add 100W to the recommended figure to be on the safe side and thats the wattage you want to have available. There is another calculator on the Asus website, but I've found this to be massively overestimating the power you need. If you want a laugh, try it out: http://support.asus.com/powersupply.aspx
Those psu calculators over estimate everything, more like subtract 200w to be sane. This part of a review article might give you a good idea... http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1834/11/
sorry if i wasn't clear, was looking more for model recommendations don't have any use for a power calculator, i know that i'll need ~850W
Anything from a reputable brand will fit the bill. Really depends how much you want to spend / what features you want. Normally you pay a bit extra for semi / full modular and the higher the efficiency ratings (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) the greater the cost. Can't comment on prices for scan and such but a lot of the community will recommend brands such as seasonic, corsair, enermax, coolermaster, etc.
What I would get, Seasonic X850 But judging from you had in the first post I suspect you might be looking for something cheaper so maybe the SS850AM instead? I defineatly wouldn't skimp on some cheap psu for some nice hardware.
my budget isn't really set, i just wouldn't mind spending less i was looking at the SS850AM actually, seems nice edit: ordered this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341044 full modular means i can have a fun sleeving project this summer edit2: canceled that order and bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341053
