So, I'm sure there are lots of threads about ME2 but since most of them are super old I thought I'd make a new one so I could have a massive whinge even if it's just to make me feel better.

So, I'll start with the good because I'm nice like that.

    1. The dialogue and the delivery is much more enjoyable. It's much smoother and much more interesting, doesn't feel forced and no delays between characters makes it feel like an actual conversation.

    2. The combat is slightly improved, the AI is more intelligent and takes cover/uses its advantages to better effect. I liked how the advantage of using one weapon/ammo over another provided clear benefits. In the first one it didn't seem to make much difference to me.

    3. Miranda is smokin'.

    4. The end boss looked freakin' awesome and the game looked better overall.

    Ranty time.

    1. First and foremost, just what the hell... There are what, four or five actual story important missions that happen? I mean I realise the game has to be a setup for ME3 but all I can really remember is a. Pick up EFI thing to get through Omega 4 relay. b. Go and kill collectors. There was way, WAY too little of actual plot in the game.

    2. I found it difficult to like or connect to the characters. Rather than in the first where it just felt like a natural progression of a team coming together It just felt like a chore. I guess the biggest disappointment is that when I finally got to the end of finding them and then doing whatever they wanted I got all excited about getting on with the actual game and finding out some cool plot stuff and it was bloody over in an hour!

    3. The dumbing down is incredibly annoying. It does just feel like console gamers bitched about having to use too much analogue stick to find and pick weapons etc. It's way too over simplified. So far as I can tell all the bullet weapons effectively carry out the same damage but just have different firing modes/clipsize...

    4. End level. Whilst the humanoid robot thing looked AWESOME the end level was pants. It reminded me of that GOW2 end level where you just fly around in a helicopter and shoot at something. In the ME1 finale my heart was absolutely pounding, it was incredibly tense. As soon as I saw that robot thing I knew what would happen... Oh look, I'm hiding behind a wall and popping up to fire rocket launchers at you at the appropriate time... I barely moved.

    Just... Super disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, I love it but ME1 completely blew me away and really made me feel like games could be good and have an actually wonderful story line.

This one, whilst enjoyable just felt like any other shooter with a half arsed plot.

    /rant.

I agree with you. Though I feel we are the minority, on the bit-tech forums at least.

    At least I'm not alone!

Also, WTF happened to paragon/renegade... Most of the time I had no idea why I'd been given renegade of paragon points. They just showed up.

i remember reading ME3 is going to be even more "accessible", i really struggle to see how can they dumb it down even further ?

maybe they'll make it into a interactive movie, lol. "press space to watch the next scene", "press 2 to punch the annoying tv reporter in the face" ....

btw. if you didn't know already Miranda = Yvonne Strahovski

Yeah I read that and just thought... "why, dear god why". I agree and have no idea how you could dumb it down further except for removing *all* upgrades.

It breaks my heart, it really does. I completely fell in love with ME1. And ME2 smashed it, just like Ashley did :(.

And yeah, she's fair hot but I prefer the animated badass version :D

From what they have said about ME3 it will follow exactly the same structure. Assemble your team then go do big mission. Seriously? Again!? Why can't I use the team I already have and just do a load of awesome story driven missions?

The end boss fight was a disappointment and a tad predictable as far as storyline goes, and the game was dumbed down I agree. But it still remains one of my all time favorite games regardless.

Loads of people complained about rpg elements being removed from 2 and it sounds as though ME3 won't be as dumbed down in that regard at least. I'm a bit miffed about the whole team building thing again. We already have a team.
I'm guessing that when Shepard is called to account for destroying the Mass Relay and the colony, that your crew either, buggers off, or is dismissed somehow. Or perhaps they go off to do what they can to prepare for the invasion and you have to go around after the trial picking them all up again. Perhaps this has been explained already, but I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

I don't think you;re in the minority at all. Most people I've mentioned the series to say that ME1 was superior.

I feel it's something Bioware does to all it's recent games. Same thing with Dragon Age. Origins was absolutely brilliant, while DA2 was so dumbed down it wasn't even really fun anymore. ME2 in comparisson was far more enjoyable but compared to ME1 you're totally right. An it sucked that you couldn't lay Kelly...

Don't really know what to expect of ME3... hope it's better than 2.

I think it's implied you sleep with her when you have "dinner".

I say that because if you're not in a relationship after that she'll send you an email (Kellygrrl hahaha) and after that you can call her upto your room for a god awful half naked dance session or a cudle...

I've not played DA.... I just hope ME3 isn't several hours of building a team followed by one big kill the reaper mission...

It wouldn't surprise me if they'll keep going with the franchise, which is upsetting.
