    Hello and good afternoon!

Sun's out and I'm stuck inside here trying to get the above to work before the returns deadline runs out (tomorrow) on the headset I've bought. Nabbed a Kraken Tournament Edition in the Amazon sale to see if it fixed my gaming chat woes, but I cannot for the life of me get the damn software to play nicely.

I do want to use the Synapse stuff because it comes with THX Spatial Audio (and yes, I am aware Windows has a pseudo-surround option) but I'm not sure why I can't get anything out of the headset (properly) or system speakers. I'm also not sure if there's a problem with my motherboard audio - I can't reliably test the green jack at the rear; the Realtek HD Audio Manager is acting up; the front jack isn't great either and I'm not sure if this is all due to conflicts or breakage.

    Here's what I've tried/have found:
    • Realtek shows me plugged into the rear green jack but when I hit the test icon, the left speaker signal comes from the right speaker and the right test signal isn't heard at all

    • The non-disabled devices I have available in the Windows settings are:

    • But I have disabled a few of the obvious ones like the monitor output, the Nvidia outputs, Realtek Digital & Digital Optical (Realtek speakers work in place of these), the internal aux jacks that Synapse appears to have added as options and disabled by itself and the duplicates that also look to have been added by Synapse (these duplicate as "THX Spatial" and "THX Spatial Synapse" for each option):
    • upload_2022-8-10_13-45-8.png
    • I do remember having some issues a while back but I was switching to a USB DAC anyway so it didn't matter too much. Incidentally, when I did switch to this, it swapped the left and right channels and I've never been able to fix them so just used it as is (also a reason for the headset purchase)
    • If I test the surround from the Synapse app, using Realtek HD Audio Speakers as the default output and with Windows Spatial Surround off, I can only really hear the front one and nothing from the left speaker at all:

    • If I test the headphones with the THX enabled, then the front left/right and rear left/right sound like they should be switched 180 ie. front left sounds like rear left etc.. It might of course be that the THX is poo
    • If I then change the default device as suggested by that message in the lower left of the Synapse screen and re-test, no sound comes from either speakers or headset although "Speakers - THX Spatial Synapse" is now the default output
    • If I go back to the Windows Sound panel and right-click then Test on the Realtek speakers, same outcome as from the Realtek Manager; if I do the same on the "Headset Earphone - Razer Audio Controller - Chat", then the left and right test signals appear to come from the correct earphones at decent volume
    • If I right-click and Test anything else, the green output meter doesn't even register
    • Playing music from the internet through the Realtek speakers results in only the right speaker playing (which I assume is the left channel) at reduced volume. Switching the DAC back in gives more appropriate volume and both speakers back, but the channels are swapped
I am stumped. If anyone can suggest anything else I can try that enables me to keep the headphones and get away from this desk with things resolved and THX surround booming out from whichever source I choose, I'd be most grateful indeed.

    Thanks in advance, all!

EDIT: Further to the above, I have now found that if I test the headset and USB DAC speakers using this option:

...then some sort of pseudo-surround attempt happens, although not sure if the channels are correct from this diagram as nothing lights up to show where a test signal should be coming from. However, using the EQ with some music on has no effect whatsoever. Adjusting levels like this:

    ...did nothing to the music.
