Dunno if you can solve my latest issues (I seem to be having a lot, from cold boots to blue screens).

From time to time, without any reasons, all my recording devices can just completely die and not transmit or record anything. I can look in the mixer whilst I'm talking, and both my webcam (USB) and headset (plugged directly into my soundcard) no longer have their levels moving.

Rebooting fixes this issue and the recording devices come back and function properly. I personally think it might be a faulty sound card but I'm not an expert.

On-board sound and drivers have been disabled/removed.

    Help!

Is this with any particular software, or everything?

Could be the soundcard's drivers or even Windows sound API interfering, which the drivers should sort out.

I installed the latest drivers on Asus' website after the issue cropped up again.

It sounded like there was some sort of helicopter or pneumatic drill in the background of my mic, even if I muted the mic using the in-line muter of my headset.

does this happen if you plug anything else into the socket?

Is the socket set to take Mic signal, not line in?

I don't have a second mic to try the socket.

I don't know how to set the socket to take mic signal rather than line in. The socket should already do mic signal since the sound card has a socket for microphone (where I plug my mic in) and a different one for line-in.

I've taken the sound card out completely and am testing on-board sound to see if I get the same issues. If I don't, it's a sound card issue that I'll probably just return for a full refund and ask on the forums for an alternate make/model.

you can plug in a jack to jack wire or even a set of headphones if you are just testing to see if the mic is the problem

Or you can do like you are doing and plug the mic into the onboard.

Upon removal of sound card and reenabling and reinstalling onboard sound drivers, I've yet to have an issue at all with my recording devices.

I think that pretty much concludes that the sound card is slightly faulty?
