That sucks, for Norman Lovett & RedDwarf, however... Although that might just piss-off Norman Lovett even more...
I lol'd. It was great episode. Great mix of sci-fi and funnies. The only downside is that you can see the guys are just not *quite* as silly as they used to be, like the opening scene is pretty wooden. They could always revive Holly as another character. It doesn't have to be Lovell.
M'eh... Not really feeling it I'm afraid, it all felt a bit too forced and wooden, just like S7 I suppose (8 always felt better I have to admit). Having said that, it's about 10^10 times better than Back to Earth was.
I remember reading the opinions of someone who was in the audience saying that you could tell the cast were getting back in the the swing of things, apparently the "wooden" feel is gone by episode 2/3 I resent that.
I'd love the toaster to make an appearance in this series! Overall really enjoyed it. Getting back to 'proper red dwarf', the series didn't work as well when the entire red dwarf crew came back to life imo. Lets just pretend 7,8 and 9 never existed? In case you missed it earlier in the thread, you can catch up online http://video.uktv.co.uk/dave/red-dwarf/series-10/episode-1.
Judging by the trailers for the next episode, they find (another) alternative for Holly, who turns out to be just as bad as Queeg.
I thought it was pretty much back on form. Was easier to watch than series 7, 8 and back to earth, although to be fair 7 & 8 had there good episodes like Cassandra, Only the Good & Epideme. Can't wait to see next weeks episode and the rest of the series.
come on "pete is that you?" "want some seed?" Is a classic moment! I thought it was good, Agreed season 6 was the best and not quite there but good none the less. Really glad they didnt try and ultra modernise it. The "old" style set is part of what makes it red dwarf. Even with all the make up, Kryton seems to have visibly aged especially round the eyes lol.
It was his belly that made me laugh I wasn't impressed by the last episodes Dave put together but having watched the first episode of this series a couple of times now I really enjoyed it. The moose joke was really well constructed and delivered and one of my favourite bits was the course change bit Roll on episode 2....
Back to Earth put me off, but this thread has made me think perhaps I should give it a try. I used to love Red Dwarf (still do, actually, I just wish I could erase 7, 8 and BtE from my memory, like Holly and Agatha Christie in Series 1)...
This. Double Meh from me (and MrsGOO - as she said, "Didn't this used to be a lot funnier?") Won't be bothering with the rest of it.
Watching the first series again felt the same, give it time and I think they'll get back into the flow of it. It feels like they're getting to know each other again.
I actually enjoyed it. Thought there were some good laughs in it; not a classic episode but a good enough start to keep me watching.
