    X10 stuff will do that.
    www.x10.com
(They are a good place to buy, just DONT fall for their "End NOW!" sales pitch)

would that work with a heater switch, see my house is a old one and still uses a old switch to turn it on and off in the basement, but my folks wired it so that the switch is in my room (best route up), so now its mad annoying, when i'm like sleeping they wake me up to turn it on or off and either that or i have to leave my door unlocked.. which i hate...

in other words.. the switch is for some kind of heating system, the switch u showed me is Rated at 500W (incandescent). is this good enough?

I don't know, what is the heater rated for??

I would guess that the heater is a little higher than 500W, but you never know...
