I have a HP 2140 but it only has a 60GB Serial ATA-150 HDD in it, I found a 1tb Serial ATA-300 HDD but will it be ok to put in my netbook?

    thanks in advance

The main thing to look out for is the depth of this new HDD compared to what the laptop can take. Also find out if there are any problems associated with your laptop working with such a large capacity HDD. It might require a BIOS update for the motherboard if it is an old lappy!

When I replaced the hdd on my hp I had to take a converter off the original and put it on the new one to make it fit. Mine was a dv6000 though so I don't know about your model.

As long as it physcially fits should be fine. May need a BIOS update to support the capacity like Blogins said but I doubt it. Also haven't checked the specs but I assume it'll probably be limited to SATA-150.

In a word yes. I'm typing on a D630 with sata-150 and installed a Corsair F40 SSD and the performance gain is appreciable even with the lower sata rating. So a decent drive will still shine through!

ok thank you, I was more interested in the capacity than performance as it is fine as it is atm.

thank you so much for all your help
