Is it safe to wire up a 230v device, like a big fan to a psu?

I would say it was a little doddgy. Also you'll get a high magnetic flux off of a 230V fan that will wreak havoc with your puter

I once had a set of speakers that was powered with a pass thought plug. You could make one yourself, so you tap off the PC's power cable before it goes into your PSU. If you don't wanna open up your PSU that is.

May seem harsh, but I'd suggest if you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it.

The ATX system was designed with no high voltages running around inside the case, unlike the AT system.

Well I was planning to do this and have a Mains switch on the front panel to turn off the PSU and the pumps in one.
