    Hi PC community!

I am having an issue finding a reliable source to turn a memory card into a fixed drive.

I am replacing an old 1.8 inch hard drive from an ipod classic and use an SD card with a CF (compact flash) to SD adapter TO a Cf-ZIF (zero insertion force I think) adapter. So far itunes only sees it once and then when I restore it again, it no longer see's it.

From what I found so far, the 1.8 in drives sort of run like an IDE disk drive and the device (or computer) has to see certain parameters for it to read properly like a fixed drive. Well, I am trying to do the same for an SD card, but I have not found a reliable source to create the "parameters" in the SD card.

So far, my attempts have nearly bricked Windows 8 and I was barely able to restore it and I have hit a wall.

Does anyone know how to format an SD card into a fixed drive instead of a removable drive? Remember, I am running it through a CF to SD card adapter.

    Your help would be appreciated.

I don't think this is a function of formatting but off standards. CF use IDE, they are for all intents and purposes a very small hard disk SD cards don't. You need to buy a physical adaptor, that will translate from SD to IDE, I have a CF to IDE adaptor and its just a physical adaptor but the ones which do the same job for SD have a little chip to translate.

Steveo: in that case, I would need a CF to SD adapter that has the chip which makes it ATA standard correct? That seems the easiest to do without buying a SD card pre-standard as a fixed disk.
