There's no reason why Seagate's reputation for making reliable HDDs would translate to the quality of their SSDs anyway - so I don't believe they have lost out too badly. The winner in the SSD market will be the one producing the drives which give the best price-performance at the time when the price is low enough for SSD to be a viable alternative to HDD. The SSD market of course is only just getting started, only a small fraction of netbook sales were for the SSD versions, with HDD still overing more GBs per pound - the only thing your average consumer is interested in.
