Seems ok at the moment - but sometimes it went for a few days before popping up again. Is it triggered by the amount of traffic? Have your IT chaps told you what was wrong?
What happened to active project logs & miserable discussions on the front page?. I see a blank space now. Happy to not get distracted by miserable discussions because it does nothing good for me but a bit unhappy to see project logs go, possibly vice versa for people who like miserable discussion. Why not make the project logs portion extend for more projects?, better than a blank space.
This, I used to use that as a quick way of getting to the forums. Now I have to drag the mouse all the way to the top and click the forum button like some sort of barbarian. I always thought that having the top project logs section was partly what separated Bit-Tech from the other tech sites out there. One click and you're in the modding zone, simple. It also really showcased what much of Bit-Tech is about, the modding scene, that's again very different to most other tech sites out there. It had better come back as that's a nice bit of identity right there.
It was probably removed because threads like "Is Bit-tech dying?", "Server Upgrade?" and "I hate Bit-tech because it gave my disabled puppy cancer" don't look great on the front page of a commercial site
Bookmark: http://forums.bit-tech.net/ then use: http://www.bit-tech.net/rss/ No need to view the front page ever! The magic happens in the forums
I actually like visiting the front page, usually just for the news bites on the right. I cba with visiting too many tech sites so having the news there is quite useful for me. Prefer that to RSS feeds too, not sure why but I always just lose interest in my feeds, despite later visiting the same sites within them. That's why I liked the project logs link, meant I could have a quick scoop at the front page, then move onto the juicy forum activity.
When did you first notice this? I wasn't aware of any changes. Am wondering if it's yet another issue with the server upgrade.
Nevermind that dude, did anyone actually do anything to fix the fact that often we get locked out of the forums for hours?
Didn't keep a log of it but I think it was the 6th or the 7th. RTT is right though, staff getting locked out is higher priority, I get that occasionally but usually fine when I come back later.
Umm, not sure if serious... (despite the wink) That's around the time all the thread update notification emails go out - it's quite normal to get busy messages between 00:00 and 00:30.
