So some of my ram died so i decided to finally set up Live on my xbox.
This has been the most difficult thing i have ever done.First i had to set a new profile up for live loosing all my gamer points, second my hotmail was registered to another account, it turns out to be the profile i set up for Dirt2.
Then i finally go that set up and it says that im not old enough.
    I then reset my age.
Now it thinks my hotmail is registered to a parents account and i cant change it.
This is why i play on PC.
I have finally given up.Probably going to sell it now and but a ps3 later as the xbox is really starting to annoy my lately.

I'm sorry if i have ever dissed the PS3

Xbox is bad. Therefore, PS3 is not bad.

This is not a valid argument.

Also, why would you have cared about gamer points prior to having a Live account? They're not useful for anything without one. If you ever intended to use them, you would have set up a Live account straight away.

Also also, if you're not old enough to use the service, that's not Microsoft's fault. And if the email address belongs to your parents, why not simply seek their help and cooperation in setting up the Live account? And if you don't want them to be involved, why not start the Live account creation process again from scratch? You've already lost your gamer points so it can't do any more damage to start over.

The thing is it is my email and i am of age.
It wont let me start up a new one because it is registered to my current live already

Why does it think you're underage? Did you enter the birth date info incorrectly? If I were in your position my next step would be to phone their tech support (specifically phone, don't email, because they never take email enquiries seriously).

I've gotta say, I really don't understand the nature of your problem any more. This is what I've gathered so far: your current xbox Live account is tied up with your parents' email account/s, and is therefore unusable, but you can't create a new xbox Live account?

Why can't you just make a whole new account with a different email address? Xbox consoles aren't tied to a single account, are they, you can log into different ones from the same 360?

Well ive got loads of peoples accounts on my console and they can all be logged into no problems, unless its changed in the last 3 months? (yes its been that long since i used it)

Why did you need to setup a new account in the first place im sure you can assign an existing account to the console.

Without sounding harsh this does sound more like user error than a problem with the console/system.

The OP means that having been stressed out by the 360, the PS3 suddenly didn't feel so bad.

Can you not just adjust the parental permissions from the system area of the dashboard? Im not near mine atm, but im fairly positive ive never be told i need parental permission on any of the other accounts on my console.

Wow, I dunno how you managed to make something so easy into such a complete nightmare!

Why couldn't you just start again and not use the one that for some reason doesn't work, whatever, etc. ?

Make a new account. A whole new one. With a different email address. Invent a new identity if you have to. Shoot a policeman. Go to the toilet in his helmet.

I forgot where I was going with this, but you get the point.

You know you can convert a normal profile over to a silver or gold profile, it's quite easy, though you might be prompted to change the name if it's already taken.

I may be a touch under the affluence of incohol but I fail to see the issue here.

I have the inarguable knack of screwing up everything I touch but even I have an Xbox Live account, created without the assistance of drama llamas or anyone else. I've even gained rep from the rare occasions I've used said account online by not being a ****nugget (or at least not too much of one).

Sit back, relax. As boiled_elehant said, create an entirely new account and take it from there. Yes, you may need to find a new tag but I've been through umpteen different ones before finding something that some bugger else won't nick!

I had some issues setting up my Xbox live a while back.

The initial gamertag I wanted was 'Cabe6403'. So I created the profile and activated it on live. I linked it to my hotmail.co.uk email address seeing as it's also from Microsoft and I figured it'd be easier.
When I went to upgrade to Gold it started asking for a US credit card. For some obscure reason it seemed to think my .co.uk email address was US based... I tried changing the country but it doesn't let you.
I even phoned up Xbox support and they said there was nothing they could do. When I set my .co.uk account up it was 'just' after they'd released the uk hotmail addresses. This was before you could put in your location apparently so the default location was just 'Redmond, Washington' (i.e. Where Microsoft was from)

So I ended up having to create a new account and link it to a different email address. I couldn't even get live support to delete the initial account so I could use the same Gamertag.

I ended up having to create another gamertag (Cabe64 if anyone is wondering).

your profile says your in 5th year, 5th year in school? if its school and not college thatd make you 17

is this you bebo account that makes you 17?
    http://o.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=2513962223 or www.bebo.com/murraynt
(i cant see it at work but if you search murraynt athlone 17 thats what comes up)

if your under 18 youve put ur dob in somewhere as being 17 and xbox live is picking it up either from your hotmail or xbox account or somewhere

if your under 18 its hard for a reason. dont moan that xbox live is doing its job

I have to ask - what profanity was starred out there? Buttnugget? S***nugget? F***nugget? C***nugget?

The possibilities are endless and each as weird as the last...
