    Odd question perhaps.

I've got a motherboard (MSI gd53 using p67) that has one 16x slot and an 8x slot, with the 16x dropping to 8x during SLI.

I'm wondering; if I stuck a 1x pci-e soundcard in the second slot, would the first (with gpu in it) stay at 16x bandwith or drop to 15x or drop to 8x.

Having the sound card in the second slot would improve space around teh gpu and possibly cooling.

Would running at 8x even make a difference for a 560 ti?

    The 1x slots don't affect the 16x slots, you'll be fine. :)

I think he means if he put his soundcard in the 8x slot, rather than putting it in a 1x slot. And I don't think it affects anything bandwidth wise. Even if it does, you'd never notice the difference between 8x and 16x.

Ohhh yea I re-read it and get the question now :duh:. Yes it drops the first slot to 8x, but like you say it doesn't affect performance.

I have 3 gtx 580 and a sound card. GPU 1 runs at 16x and GPU 2 & 3 runs at 8x speed. So the sound card doesn't effect the these lanes.

    Cheers,

    Simon.
