Looking for something shorter than the standard(ish) 7.5 inches. THIS is the shortest I found at 6.7 inches. Anyone find/have one shorter?
6.7 inches isn't bad, considering a disc is 4.75 inches. What are you having trouble with? Could a slim DVD work, or a slot loading one? Edit: http://www.directron.com/dw224e.html about 5.75 long (12.9 cm) That is probably the shortest you'll see a drive.
That's like a laptop drive....and yeah I could mod that into a plexi case or something but $262 is a bit steep. The longer one I have right now is going to get in the way of a long resevior I want to run through the middle of my case.
I got a liteon cd writer a couple of weeks ago and that is very short. not sure how short but a lot less than normal. I presume they do dvd drives as well.
No that is $262 for 2 drives $132 for a single drive. http://www.directron.com/cddvdadapter.html You might need one of those also bringing it to $142
Yup, all the modern Lite-On's (both DVD, CDRW and DVDR) come in the same short box, I've not measured one but they are almost square when looking from the top.
I've recently been looking at this too, about the shortest I could come up with was 17cmx14.5cm for a CDRW/DVD combo, I doubt a DVD only drive will be much if any smaller. Also given the size of an actual CD I doubt that you're going to get anything much smaller than this unless you use an external or slimline DVD, I think some of them are pretty titchy but you pay a pig premium.
Yep, the CRX225/230/300E drives are all nearly square from the top, which equals pretty short And nice drives, too.
