    Hi There,

I was really hoping there'd be a Silverstone CW02 design...
    Alas I've checked TSCC & Google's 3d warehouse to no avail :(

Does anyone know of any other databases I can search?
Would anyone be prepared to do a design for me, for a small amt?

I want to use it as the template for some modz I have envisioned.
Having exact measurements (to scale) & seeing what everything looks like virtually, should be invaluable!

I haven't tried asking Silverstone for the original CAD files yet, but I don't like my chances there!?
Failing all this I'll of course have a go at using sketchup, but I don't like my chances there too!

Aside from this thread, are there other forums/communities where many designers congregate?
Any advice is hugely appreciated! Thanks!

Invaluable!!! :thumb: Now who's going to volunteer to go back through all the submitted motherboards to correct them to the official standards??? :naughty:

Not great but should tide you over for ideas while someone knocks you up a better model :)

    Oh wow... Thanks!

How the heck did you come up with that so damn quickly!?
Did you find some templates somewhere? :eyebrow:

I don't suppose i could contract you to do the rest? :naughty:

Do you have any ideas for the remaining questions in my OP?

    Thanks again, you rock!

No worries dude, I had a mobo tray from the collection but the rest was just modelled from the link you gave :) should be pretty accurate +/- 2mm but without having one to get my callipers on its impossible to get perfect :)

I could probably finish it off working to the same tolerance but I'm pretty backed up until the middle of next week :sigh:

A CW02 mobo tray from the "sketchup components collection"?
Weird, it didn't show up when I searched.

    Sorry for my n00biness...
But how on earth are you able to model one so accurately/quickly using only the photos in that link?
    I'm just flabbergasted... :jawdrop:

Yeah and that's the added problem...
Unless I/silverstone can get you every measurement, & unless they're all 100% correct.
Then you're never going to have a 100% accurate CAD replica, right?

Aside from that I've had more time to reflect...
It's not really that useful to bother with CAD replica (inc. the mods I want done) is it?
I mean I can easily measure & mark out everything I want done, "on the case" right?!
It'd be more useful to devise a CAD for the final item on my To Do list though right?
As it involves designing something completely from scratch etc.

Very kind of you sir, I'll definitely keep that in mind!
Although I'm questioning the whole necessity for it as of now.
At least for the case mods, a CAD for the filtration box may be useful.

    Three final unanswered questions:
    (1) Does anyone know of any other databases I can search?
    (2) I haven't tried asking Silverstone for the original CAD files yet, what are my chances there?
    (3) Are there other forums/communities where many designers congregate?

Yeah, lots of copying and pasting URLs between different windows, took a while. I only screwed up one submission though, I think (hopefully) - one of the 6mm fittings had the wrong mediafire URL; noticed the error and resubmitted it right after.

I also have a bunch of radiators I may submit later on, plus a few other things.

I think the url for the picture of "Koolance Male-Female Coupling Adapter" might be wrong too, it's not loading for me.

    Thank-you Asura! As I suspected...
Just always good to be validated by folks w/more knowledge in the area.
I don't suppose you could expand on what you mean by "maybe"?

Cad is just a drawing aid, nothing more.

At uni (studding architecture) we weren't allowed to use cad in any of our projects until third year; we had classes (rubbish classes taken by a rubbish lecturer who know less about cad than I did by week four... but that' s another tail for another time) in second year, but our graded projects were all hand drawn.

The reason for this? CAD is fairly crap for visualization, and very, very slow! I could sketch out a dozen ideas for a house on a plot by hand in the time it would take me to produce one using CAD alone. SketchUp's better than most, but even it didn't fair to well in a PhD project a guy was doing using us as subjects 20 using SU, 20 using traditional methods. Those using SU started more slowly in their design development, but then accelerated as the project went on. Though this was more due to the crappy AutoCAD 2001 which was the uni's de-facto CAD package at that time, rather than any greatness of SketchUp.

    If you're comfortable with a scale/ruler and a set-square then CAD is a luxury you don't need.

I thought the very reason CAD was useful is it's good for visualisation.
At least for things that are being designed entirely from scratch!
    Interesting, thanks for sharing!

    I wouldn't say I'm comfortable, draftsman/architect/tradesman isn't my background at all.
But I imagine it's a damn sight easier to pick-up than CAD software, thanks heaps for the insights!

For the case mods I think I'll just rely on measuring & marking everything I want cut.
Still not clear on the best tools for the job, but I guess I'll work-it-out as I progress!
For the filter box, I'll try with a few rough sketches & measurements...
Then maybe migrate to SU, or maybe not bother at all, based on what you're saying!

CAD is useful when you have to work out how things will fit together. Concepts are better drawn by hand.

Does anyone know where I could get a model of a Lian Li V531? Or do I have to make one? :duh:
