Hello I just phoned up sky as I am trying to set up a static IP and require 2 DNS servers.

On my router page there are 2 but they don't work when setting up static IP so I am guessing they weren't the correct ones.

So when I phones I simply explained how i wanted to set up a static IP and reuire the use of the 2 DNS Servers and she blankly and cheekily  said no and said it's against terms and conditions.

I have already asked this question before to sky and they hapily gave over 2 DNS servers.

Why not now have they changed the TAC or somthing?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

    How about using OpenDNS http://www.opendns.com/
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

No need to use Sky's DNS servers.

    Or http://www.dnsadvantage.com/
    156.154.70.1
    156.154.71.1

I suspect that the person you spoke to didn't actually know what you were talking about... Or at least it wouldn't be a surprise!

i tihnk the woman on the phone thought you meant STATIC WAN IP which they dont do i think.

but theres nothing against setting LAN statics.

have you been into the command prompt and typed:

    ipconfig /all

that should tell you all the details you need to know to set up your LAN static. if not try routing around the router setup it will say somewhere.

I'm not 100% sure what you want to do, if you want a fixed IP on the internet I don't think Sky can help you.

You can use something like http://www.no-ip.com/ to do this if they don't.

If you are trying to set a PC to always be 192.168.0.2 for example then you don't need to set up anything you can leave the PC in auto matic and go into the router and do IP reservation, using this you can ensure that the IP on your LAN is reserved for a particular MAC address, nice and easy.

oo +1 as an alternative for manually settting IP rather than using windows to config it.
