anyone seen this before this GPU has never been oc'ed only used 2 times a week and all of a sudden its started to be ****ed its an 512MB XFX 9800GTX XT 720Mhz bought july 2008 should i just cut my losses and get a 5850 / 5770
Most probably. Just out of interest is your bios showing atifacting? Never seen a screenie like that before. You're not using the dodgy latest drivers by any chance?
One of the primary killers of graphics cards is heat. Did you install a third party cooler yourself? (The others are right BTW, if you did your warranty is void.)
okay bugger thanks guys and yes the post screen does start to show atifacting not sure about the bios page yet yes did install the third party cooler my self but its been running like that for a year at least now oh well time to splash some cash
Search the web for similar issues; seen similarish issues. You may be able to bake the card back if it is only microfracture. If you can't face it you can always sell your faulty card on ebay; there is a quite a market for artifacting cards. I've been looking for a project (and been dying to try the oven bake) but have not been able to find a card that would make it worthwhile; hence the ebay interest. Was hoping for a g200!
XFX warranty in the UK 2 years I believe and not modder friendly , USA double life time and you can do any thing you like to it.
funnily enough i have just tried baking it just letting it cool down before trying it in my machine if it doesnt work i'll get myself a 5770
**** me its worked seems to be running ok odd little thing here abd there but not like above baked at 250 for 30 mins let cool for a couple of hours then refit it and it seems okay will run a game tomorrow as it is late now but i seem to at the very least have a half working card again
