I'm looking around for good software to simply edit existing PDF files. Adobe refuses to use the word "Edit" on any of their comparison matrices so I'm at a loss as to which app I really need. I can get standard for $100, and Pro for $150, but it will only be used to grab existing PDF's and delete some stuff, add some stuff, and alter other stuff. Any tips on what I need? (Any tips on free software that does the same thing?) All of this will be done in Windows XP.
I know OpenOffice can save documents as PDFs. Not sure if it can edit ones it didn't create, but it might be worth a shot, before you spend a hundred or two dollars on Adobe software.
If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro you have the option of installing Adobe Designer, this gives you massive flexibility for editing and creating interactive PDF files.
Looks like we will probably go with Pro, but keep in mind this is for someone who only needs to edit simple PDF's for reporting purposes, not for design or creative purposes.
Depends what edits you want to do & on which OS.. Most editing is done on the source document with only touch-up/page rotation etc done in PDF I hear good things about PDFill editor tools (windows, free) http://pdfill.com/pdf_tools_free.html or PDFEdit http://www.pdf995.com/pdfedit.html Personally I use Acrobat Standard which is good for pretty much everything except form creation, but its expensive!!
Richard A UK company called Iceni ( http://www.iceni.com ) has very good tools in this area. Gemini ( http://www.iceni.com/gemini.htm ) has a ton of PDF conversion options with output into multiple formats. Then Infix PDF Editor allows the editing of the PDF files - as well as a load of extraction utilities. It has all the page manipulation functions (add, delete, move, rotate, etc) - it also has a fully functioned text editor that allows text to be reflowed, font changed, size changed & text block moved. Image editing, scale & image movement is also supported. See http://www.iceni.com/pdf_editor_infix.htm for free download.
better yet - skip adobe altogether. make your documents in Word. Edit documents in word. save as PDF with the free Cute PDF writer.
This is probably the best editor with really accurate PDF conversion tool -Nitro PDF Professional Fantastic app. but commercial
