Poser for ten: Can anyone explain to me why the packaging for a 10,000mAh power bank says it can charge an iPad mini (4400mAh) 1.5 times, or an iPhone (1470mAh) 4 times? Would that not indicate a capacity of either 6600mAh or 5880mAh? Why aren't these estimates twice and 6.5 times?
Yeah: they're converting the battery power into live electrical power into battery power again, with losses at both ends. If you want 100% efficiency, you need a phone with a replaceable battery you can swap out when it's empty. Absolutely anything else will come with losses.
Aha! Things are clearer - thanks indeed all. I have to say though, that TP-L article wasn't especially well written. Took three days of banging my head off it to finally get the message. Maybe I'm just thick.
