So I'm looking for a sound meter for benchmarking so we can start showing the ramping of fans when components get hot. Has anyone got a recommendation on one that can be fed into a machine over USB and preferably be queried by a python script every second or so?

The biggest problem you're going to run into is finding one that can read below 30dBA.

There are a couple of meters that read down 19dBa on RS Components. Just one fly in the ointment, they cost more than a grand each!
