I've getting an increasing problem of spam in Mozilla Thunderbird. I used to use the build in spam filter, as it did a pretty good job, but as of late its been getting a bit laid back and letting quite a bit of crap into my inbox. I've finally got fed up and installed the Spamato extension, but thats worse that the built in one. Out of the 1000+ emails I get each week only about 5 of them are geniune, and I must be manually clicking spam on over 100 message a day. Can anyone suggest something that can sort this problem out? Ideally a free solution, but if it costs money to fix, I might be tempted to pay it. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Honestly... the only way to stop your spam is to get a new email address.

Just out of curiosity, what email provider are you with?
I'm with Gmail, and their spam filter is pretty damn good, filters most of it out, and the bits that get through are dealt with by thunderbird and spamato.

Make sure you've actually set spamato up, I made the mistake of not actually having java runtime installed, and so the extension wouldn't work for a few days...

Set up some simple 'Rules' filters to delete stuff on the server. No point in downloading that amount of spam to filter it afterwards. :nono:

Make sure you mark stuff as junk, don't delete them.
