Hello, I'm looking for a new dashcam. It is probably very specific and need to feature a few things: Ultra-wide angle FoV, 170+ degree would be desired Supercapacitor Small, tiny, almost invisible when fitted behind rear view mirror I have a DDPai mini 2, it worked great as normal dashcam. 140 degrees view and supercapacitor. Up until I removed it from now sold Skoda, works like the day I bought it. I had another very early mini dashcam bought ~2014, this worked well initially. But began to corrupt SD card files due to built-in battery got so bad, it can no longer safely shutdown the dashcam. So I am buying dashcam with supercapacitor from now on. Reason for ultra-wide angle is that the car has built-in dashcam feature. It has very good rear coverage from side blind-spot cameras and reversing camera. But front coverage is very narrow. So I don't need a normal FoV dashcam for recognizing number places. I want an ultrawide dashcam to cover the full frontal view, hopefully a little bit to the side as well. Any recommendations?
https://www.aukey.com/products/aukey-dr01-c Not sure if it's small enough, but that's about the smallest I can see with supercap and 170°, you could have another mount 3D-printed to get a smaller install.
Yeah..... that's going to stick out..... I was wondering if any in this form factor: Good price though, don't need to see any details, just how other cars have moved within frontal FoV.
I have a blackvue and it's excellent: https://shop.blackvue.com/product/dr590x-1ch-with-gps/ Pricier though and not wide enough in that model.
Yeah, I saw that video. I am happy for dashcam to NOT record every detail. Eg. I'm not expecting the dashcam to have number plates visible. All I need a dashcam to do is to record a very wide field of view just in case important stuff happen outside the narrow forward recordings of the car's built-in dashcam. Example comparison: The Blackvue is very pricy, but I really like the spec sheet, it actually details the bit-rate, one of most important metric for video clarity. Many cheap dashcam I see don't bother mention this.
Not sure exactly what model I've got, but it's at least 10 years old now, and still the bit-rate is OK enough, the new ones will be leaps and bounds ahead. e.g. This recording from it is good enough imho.
If it helps, this lens can give a GoPro a 155 degree FOV - https://gopro.com/en/gb/shop/mounts-accessories/max-lens-mod/ADWAL-001.html
I'm considering this one, looks to tick all the boxes: https://www.amazon.co.uk/REXING-Das...X528FNE/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B00X528FNE&psc=1 Hopefully the display turns off soon after power on when in normal operation.
My other half has a very similar one, the screen is off in about 15s of startup. Some have adjustable screen times as well.
Have you had a look at the VanTrue range? https://www.vantrue.net/Goods/goodList/cid/4.html#products I bought a previous version of an N1 Pro about 3 years ago and with the right memory card (Sandisk Endurance) it works very well, to the point it clearly picked up the reg of a car coming the other way that clonked my wing mirror the other day and didn't bother stopping. I must get in touch with my insurance about it.
Thanks, this one looks fit my needs: https://www.vantrue.net/product/element_1 160 to 170 degrees probably won't make much difference. Looking at the 2 closely and noticed the one I posted earlier has min-USB. I'm not going to spend the effort wiring up my car with such an outdated cable! There's a lightning deal at £128, for the Vantrue element 1 today. I'm probably going to buy this Vantrue dashcam.
Actually, I think I'll sacrifice left side view and just mount my existing 140 degree mini dashcam tilted towards the right. Fits behind the rear view mirror to be almost completely hidden. Most bad things happen from the right .... right? The gray car C pillar is almost in-line with my A pillar. The red Leaf is pretty much straight on, ever so slightly to the left. The built-in view is not much wider than the centre line in the camera.
Very true. Most of the time for this car is to be spent on major trunk roads doing longer distances. The red Leaf is the local runabout.
