    that.Sucks.
SC was always a highlight at LANs for me... but then... i suppose this was unavoidable to an extent... or rather - forseeable...

You'll be able to setup private sessions over battle.net, but it's to force everyone to sign in to battle.net, "preventing" piracy.

    Greetings!

Lets all thank those parasitic freeloaders for giving publishers/developers a justification to screw PC games.

But... but... it's StarCraft! It has to have LAN!

I can't wait for people to start claiming that Blizzard are being unreasonable though. It won't take long.

Wasn't SC the reason LAN was invented? (Ok, I know it wasn't, but still)

@ghys: its called trying to make people buy your game so you don't have to fire your developers. The rampant piracy is whats killing PC gaming, COD4 is probably just as played on PC as on consoles and yet got out sold console vs PC by around 10 to 1.

And I think there has been a misunderstanding, you can interpret it as you can play on LAN but you must authenticate via battle.net similar to how steam works, as I understand it you create the game via battle.net and so on and then when you play all the traffic is directed over the LAN. (i'm hoping this is the case)

I'm hoping that instead of this retarded move, Blizzard launches a working Steam-like service, or better yet, releases the game via Steam.

I don't know where you're getting that information, but two Blizzard execs have stated in no uncertain terms that SCII traffic will be routed through Battle.net.

It's been mentioned that they want everything they ever do to go through Battle.net.

It shouldn't even be a surprise if they start charging for Battle.net and doing all their MMO subscriptions through it, too.

I do HOPE that there's a method of, while authing with battle.net, that you can push traffic through the LAN, but I seriously do not see that happening - "We don't currently plan to support LAN play with Starcraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with Starcraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games," that spells it pretty clearly - No LAN.

    No LAN????

That's obscene! So if I want to play the game with only my brother, I have to go on Battlenet???

    Let's hope this isn't true...

    Well that's absolutely crushing.

The primary reason I was looking forward to this game was to do LAN parties with my friends like we used to with starcraft one.

Really bad move in my opinion.
