Anyone else having trouble with their Steam account lately?
Steam randomly told me that my account login needed to be refreshed due to it being used from another location, which immediately set alarm bells ringing for me so I changed my password and sent a ticket to steam support about it, asking them if there's been suspicious activity on my account.

They asked for verification of account ownership, so I provided the details they wanted (photo of cd-key with support ticket number written beside it, credit card details for the account (last 4 digits, etc) ).
Their initial replies came within a few hours, but I sent them those details last night and haven't heard from them since.

Then when I tried to login to steam tonight I got the message that my account has been disabled. :sigh:

Do they typically disable accounts during an investigation of its usage? I'm worried now that I've had my account stolen and used for something nefarious enough to get it disabled, as I've spent a considerable amount of money on games with that account.

I also had Steam tell me that my account was being used in another location. I just assumed someone had turned my pc on at work and steam had autosigned in.

I signed straight back in and changed my password but didnt bother contacting steam support as there are no credit card details linked with my account and the password change seemed to work.

I am not sure how long it takes steam to do an investigation of an account but I would have thought that you should get it enabled as soon they read your email with the proof of ownership.

BTW have you checked with your bank to see if any purchases have been made with your credit card that shouldnt have?

Well either there was someone hacking your account and they saw the password switch and locked it, or they saw you switch passwords and locked it.

They'll sort you out, I've seen a few people reclaim stolen accounts, and I've had my account disabled after repeated attempts to hack it. It stressed me out, but support fixed it all up.

I know one guy who's account got robbed, and then the guy started gloating to him over friends when he set up a parachute account. Same guy tried to phish my account over friends.

What I'm saying, basically, is the account disabling thing is pretty normal. Don't fret.

Thankfully, my credit card is maxed at the moment so even if my account was hacked they can't buy anything on my card with it. :p
If I'm not mistaken this is thanksgiving weekend in America, so the chances of me getting a reply before tomorrow from Steam are fairly slim. I'm hoping that, as you say, the account has just been disabled while they sort it out. :worried:

If someone has been interfering with my account it does raise some worries though. I'm already quite security-conscious and I'm not really sure what more I could do to keep myself safe from further hacks short of being completely paranoid (instead of just mostly paranoid ).
Hopefully it was just a bug in Steam that I overreacted to, but we'll see I suppose.

Cheers for the replies and assurance guys.

I got this once when I was logged into steam and then restarted the pc and tried logging in again I think sometimes it can be an error, or their security sucks cause my password is pretty random.

Just to stick an update on this in case anyone else comes to this topic by searching or whatever:

Steam support contacted me again after resetting my password and security question, having re-enabled my account and informed me that it seemed as though someone had hijacked the account.

They didn't give me any more information than that, so I'm still at a loss as to how it happened (particularly considering I'm usually security-obsessed and I would consider myself well-informed on the topic of phishing, etc), but their responses were fast and seemingly got the job done.
