All I have is the grey frame. Everything that should appear within is black. So it's totally unusable.

Any one know why? New CPU but that's it. Tried deleting the cache from appdata and the shortcut but neither worked.

Probably the usual reason: A sale just started and we all know Steam isn't allowed to work properly for the first 48 hours of a sale.

Weird thing is it works fine in big picture.

Oh well, that'll do me. Just want to play my games screw their sale.

Did you at some point get sick of SteamVR being generally unstable crap and install OpenComposite/OpenOVR? If so, Steam has updated SteamVR and broken the shim OpenComposite uses and you will need to update OpenComposite. If you have a relatively recent version (last year or so) you just re-open the OpenComposite launcher you initially sued to install it, and update from there. If you have one of the early OpenOVR releases, you will need to download OpenComposite and install it over the top to get the latest version.
For me, not having updated OpenComposite after a Steam update has sometimes had Steam either open to a blank window, or open and then freeze/crash shortly after loading, even when VR is not active. Not all Steam updates cause this though.
