Is there a way to speed up/choose mirror for downloading games from steam? here's my current stats: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 9808 Kbps about 9.8 Mbps (tested with 12160 KB) Download Speed is:: 1197 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Test Time:: Thu Feb 24 2005 07:39:50 GMT-0700 (Mountain Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 175X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.86 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 32.42 % faster than the average for host (unm.edu) Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/id-1KPGSQZHO And it is saying CS:S will be ready in 325 Minutes. So either Counter Strike is roughly 20Gb or there is just an insanely slow connection between my PC and the server they have selected. I am assuming they would be able to provide networks that would offer something faster than this considering I paid for this service. Any tips to choose my own server, or at least see what it is downloading and at what rate?
Cool, as frustrating as it is, I'll survive. I was just hoping someone was going to say "what, you didn't check the choose mirror button?" or something simple like that. Oh well, at least gameplay doesn't have to go through valve's network....
im on 570kb well roughly and i got about 1kbs yesterday the 16 seconds till competion of download it said took about 40minutes...
I got HL2 and CS:S in about 6 hours on the day of release. It's not particuarly slow and (hopefully) you only need to do it once. As you've got broadband just get it working overnight and play in the morning
the network grinds shortly after they release an update. usually it's (relatively) fast - maxing out my 1Mb connection. one tip is to shut it down and restart it to try and get a different server, sometimes it speeds things up.
The Answer Go to Steam>Settings>Downloads. Change the "Approximate speed of your Internet connection" box to Cable/Fiber > 10 M. This should make the download much faster.
I find it depends on the time of day. During late afternoon/evening my connection slows as more and more of the country begins using the internets. Then again, that may just be because I'm on BT who I really, really hate.
