Steam 'Steam is temporarily unavailable, please try later' UI Beta ONLY

READ: This technical fault seems to have been FIXED. If problems for you still occur however, follow the instructions below.

Recently, for those using the Steam UI Beta, alot of people are getting this error:

"Steam is temporarily unavailable, please try later"

Until Steam fix it, the solution is too:

- Close Steam
- Create a shortcut to Steam on your desktop
- Right click the shortcut, click properties
- In the "Target", add -clearbeta at the end of the Target line
- Launch Steam from the desktop shortcut

Target should be like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -clearbeta

 

I get that on boot-up sometimes, I just re-launch steam twice (1st time says I've already got a copy running) and it will connect.

 

I think this time it's beta specific Blademrk, it doesn't actually load at all so you can't even load it twice.

 

I had the problem this morning, and damn frustrating it was too. I've switched back to the old UI, yes it looks crap, but all my games are on Steam, so I can't be faffing about with reinstalls when I want to play my games. I'll wait until the new UI is finished.

 

I have the same issue. I boot Steam, it fails, I click OK. Start it up again and it is always fine.

 

Well not this time! This issue purely related to the beta UI.

I'm leaving it until tonight as I don't fancy clearing the beta and it's not like I need to play games...

i just end the steam service and it works fine, its a bug ive had for ages.

This is not the standard, "just retry" issue that many people have on and off. This is specifically about the UI Beta. No amount of retrying will work, only using the -clearbeta command in the very first post will work as the old UI is fine, it is ONLY an issue for people on the beta.

 

Thanks for this one - I've just realised my Steam beta has gone tits up and this sorted it right out.

 

Hopefully it'll be fixed before I get home from work, don't really want to clear the beta settings (I prefer the new UI over the old one, just wish they'd switch back to allowing us to assign multiple categories to games rather than just 1 main one per game)

 

I leave Steam running all the time so I've only just noticed the problem by restarting it. Some people have said deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file fixes it, but it didn't for me. Ah well, back to the old UI I suppose. Damn it looks ugly.

 

Just to keep you guys updated, just retried Steam (beta) and it performed an update (less than a minute on my dodgy internets), then it gave me a network error. Opened it again and now it's fine

 

Just got home from work, no issues logging in here

 

Yup, just changed back to the beta and all is well again. That was a harrowing few hours

 

This is EXACTLY why I stay faaar away from $h!t like this. I love physical media.

 

you mean using BETA software? the risk in that is kinda implied...
