My stock Core i7 920 keeps failing my Pime95 test... There is no OC just out of the box Core i7... I started a stress test just to look at prime95 and not even 2 seconds in only half my threads are running, Corect me if I'm wrong but for a CPU to ba stable you need all 8 threads to keep going? If you need to know my specks are in my Sig...
Any chance of a BIOS screen shot? What are your RAM timings? Have you run a Memtest? If you don't have it.. download this and burn the ISO file to a CD and boot from it. If it fails memtest, it's probably your RAM either at fault, or incorrectly timed. More details are needed though.... CPU volts? Try and take a pic of your main BIOS screen... or at least reset it to default. (I've known certain places to re-sell a returned board and still have the previous users BIOS settings still set!!)
My RAM is running at 1866MHz 9-9-9-24 2T... As for my temps that was wile running Prime95 I have my V8 cooler at full speed...
Because it's not a stock setting for the motherboard... technically, it's an overclock...(default is 1066) you've increased your dram multiplier. You may need to increase your QPI/DRam Volts to 1.3... ish... if you plan to run at 1866... it might help. Also.. Don't assume your RAM is OK just because it's meant to run at a certain speed. There is such a thing as faulty RAM you know?
memtest86+ Won't open, I get an error about seeing if I'm using x86 or x64... I don't think it will run on a 64bit PC...
Opens fine here and I'm 64bit. Extract the zipped folder... and you'll have a ISO file. Burn the image to a disc.... boot from the CD. Works fine here. I remember using it to diagnose problems when I was on Vista 64 too... no problems there either. [edit] Just realised.... it's irrelevant what OS you're using, because it's a bootable disc... you're not even IN windows when you're running it. It supports all new chips inc. Lynnfield... so a 1366 chip is no problem.
That's why, it is a boot thingy... I don't have a blank CD at the moment and I have no idea were my USB stick went, is there another program you would suggest I try?
Errr... not sure. To rule anything else out.. I always drop back to Memtest if I suspect a memory problem as it rules out potential driver issues, or OS problems.... seriously.. go borrow a CD from someone. I'm confident someone will be along in a min to suggest an alternative if that's not possible.
I went to the BIOS and changed my RAM to 1333MHz, now Prime95 works fine... So it must have been the RAM stability not the CPU... You were right. So now the question is how to make my RAM stable at a higher speed?
Up your QPI/DRAM voltage to around 1.3 and test again. [EDIT] Also.. lower your QPI data link rate to it's lowest setting. It makes no practical difference as it's your UCLK frequency that determines bandwidth.
For some reason after i changed the voltage the PC wouldn't restart... It just would error and try again and then error again...
